Double Bass NS Design WAV4 megathread part I

Any one ever thought about installing maybe a two band pre in that huge cavity on the back?
... adding a blend pot for pizz/arco, instead of the switch. Yes, have thought about that.

I bought mine just last week, and already had 'fun' getting the screwdriver through the hole to set the bridge height - the screwheads are not lining up with the holes in the backplate. I thought of removing the backplate, but then realized that the holes for the full-length strings are just cutouts in the plate (VERY different from what they install on the upmarket instruments) while the backplate is screwed into the instrument with plain old wood screws (confirmed by David at NS) - so you don't want to remove that backplate too often.

My other quibble is that it came without tools - and you just can't find a 3/16" hex driver in mainland Europe.

But I love playing this thing anyway. Would love to be able to straighten out the neck, raise the action if needed, just to be able to pluck a note that doesn't choke in arco mode ...

BTW, we need DB smilies

I'd rather just have one of the CR/EU series tripods, no plastic business whatsoever. I get pretty aggressive when i play sometimes, and I'm going to be on the road this summer.

I've been using an Aguilar DB924 with mine, and I've been thinking about having an OBP-1 or OBP-3 installed in the back. I need the new tripod and a bow first though.

so i keep seeing things said about NS sending out new stands that won't crap out on us in the first two weeks. does anybody know what style of stands this will be. i guess more importantly, does anyone know if this is true, will they be sending out new stands to us?

There has been a lot of discussion regarding the stand provided with the WAV4. I contacted my friends at NS Design so they could review some of the comments and respond with accurate from-the-source comments. Their official response:

“There has been a small percentage of stand problems; certainly not of “epidemic” proportions. If any customer has any trouble, they should contact NS for an immediate replacement or repair which is, of course covered under warranty. We are developing the stand further, so there will be a bit of evolution involved, but there is certainly no mass replacement in the works, as it would be unnecessary.”

I can confirm that very few of the folks to whom I have sold WAV4 basses have had stand issues.

My stand is messed up but it isn't the fittings or the plastic or anything. it is the threads on the mounting screw on the stand that is jank. I am not gonna hold it against you bob. you and the guys there were a great help with everything

Hey Bob
I bought the endpin stand from you for my WAV (which I got super fast)
but I really like the tripod stand only thing is mine wobbles a bit
any way you can talk to your friends at NS to help me upgrade to the tripod stand that comes with the higher end bass
say maybe I trade mine plus maybe pay 1/3 of what they want for the stand

thanks

I got my replacement bass & stand today. So far so good. The tripod seems to have been improved upon slightly - the plastic piece which the legs join to has a metal thread for the screw to go into, not just plastic.

Has anybody tried the End-Pin style stand with their wav yet? I'm interested in getting one for mine. I think it would feel more comfortable to have a little motion to the bass as i move.
I have
It is ok
I like the stand better cause in between sets I do not need to worry about where to put the bass
I guess if you dance around while you play you might find it more useful

Comfort is ok
I am fat so that lil' arm thingy just fits my gianormus gut
bought it from Bob
i think it cost $125
and since I am in NYC I received it the very next day

I still like the stand better
Give me a week and I might sell you mine

So my replacement bass now has cracks in the fingerboard which are similar to the initial bass that I received. Am I doing something wrong?? Is the Boston climate just bad for basses or is the ebony that NS sourced really that bad?

I played one of these at Sam Ash the other day. I wasn't able to give it a thorough test, since I was only there during my lunch hour, but I am seriously considering getting one. The reports of stand problems worry me a little, although apparently NS is standing behind their product. I play an Englehardt EM-1B for bluegrass, but I'd love to play a Wav 4 in the church band and occasionally in coffeehouses, etc. I guess I would use my SWR Workingman amp that I use with my P-bass guitar. Would love to hear more reports from those who've made the purchase.
