Official 2011-2012 NHL Regular Season Thread; Puck Drop

The media is reporting that Pronger is out for the rest of the season with post concussion symptons. Wow, Philly and Pitt are sure bearing the brunt of this stuff. I wouldn't wish this on any team or player.

Yeah, that really sucks. They say he's out for the regular season AND the playoffs with "severe" post-concussion symptoms. Not good news at all.

Giroux is out indefinitely, and Schenn has also been out with a concussion. Schenn has at least been working out and skating lately. The young guys and newcomers have been playing well, but I don't know if they can continue to do so long-term. I sure hope Giroux's situation isn't as bad as Pronger's...

I have a feeling (and I may and hope that I'm wrong) this may be the end of Prongers career. Sucks cause I did enjoy his antics. Call him what you will,...dirty, goon, intimidatory,...but he is a guy you want in your locker room. I wish him a speedy recovery. The question is,...do the Flyers name a new captain and if so who?

Tonight's game was a little frustrating but at the same time I'm glad to see the Flyers come out ahead, but the officiating was a little ticky tacky and I don't mean good or bad in the Flyers favor,...it's was poor for both teams; Flyers just managed to win the game.

Also worth noting that the Flyers have won 7 in a row for the first time since 2002.

Simmonds is in possession of a 4 game goal streak, Talbot has 9 goals on the year and the Flyers pop up 2 points (I think,...haven't checked stats) ahead of the Hubs for 1st in the east.

This team is really persevering in the face of adversity.

It's amazing really. They are just 1 point behind Minnesota for the league lead, with two fewer games played.

It's a Pennsylvania thing. :)

The Pens had no business being as good as they were last year with their top three guys out. Same this year with all their injuries. If the Flyers keep it up, Bylsma can hand deliver the Jack Adams to Laviolette.

I've said it before and I'll say it again. Lavy is a genius.

I've heard good things about the HBO 24/7 that is leading up to the Winter Classic. I'm going to try to find it and follow it if I can.

Edit; Found it,...gaul dangit I love being a pirate.

I agree that the Flyers; currently on paper should be at the bottom of the league,...but they are shining in the face of adversity. I'd love to believe that they can keep this up,...but I'm tentative in that at some point the other shoe will drop and the Flyers will start to lose their mojo. Of course I hope I'm wrong,...but I'm definitely high on them right now.

Pronger is definitely going to be missed come playoff time,...although it must be said; I saw an interesting stat in which the Flyer hold a slightly better record without Prongs in the lineup (above .600 [right around .607 if memory serves and improving with their current winning streak] while with him in the lineup it's slightly below .600,...[something like .593])

I really hope that we see Giroux come back soon. I'm hopeful he'll get to play in the Winter Classic as it would suck to see the Flyers without their Star Player participate in such a hyped up event,...but I think that's only an outside chance and I'm pretty doubtful.

Yeah, I know what you mean about that last comment. I still watched the WC last year, but it wasn't the same.

So the Pens are off to Ottawa tonight with their mish mash of players, but I'm hoping to keep an eye on the NJ/DAL game. Bachman is playing some good goalie recently for Dallas, so it will be fun to see how he does against the NJ snipers.

Same goes for my guy Emery in Chicago. Should be an easy win for Chicago tonight in Anaheim.

Yeah, I was thinking/wondering about this also. My feeling is that they will not name a new captain. I think they'll play out this year with 3 players wearing an "A" on their jerseys and nobody wearing the "C".

Then if it is indeed the end of the road for Pronger's career, Giroux will probably wear the "C" next year. Just my opinion, of course...
