Official 2015 NHL Playoffs Thread

I haven't seen any of the playoff games yet, just been following here and on my Droid app. I am surprised the Pens got out of NY with a win.

I was hoping for more from Ottawa. Maybe they spent all their energy getting to the playoffs, and now they're done.

I wasn't all that impressed when the Flames hired Brian Burke as President of Hockey Operations. After all, he'd been at the helm of a floundering Leafs organization for years and they'd continued to flounder. I was happy to see Burke fire Jay Feaster as GM after Calgary continued to blow leads and miss the playoffs. My viewpoint on both these decisions has changed this year. On Feaster's firing, Burke said he wanted to bring more "truculence" to the organization, he wanted them "tougher" playing with "more hostility." "Alberta hockey is black and blue" he said, and the Flames red and yellow definitely is tinged with black and blue now. Part of that blue is from Canucks uniforms that have rubbed off from the hits they've been meting out. Treliving was hired shortly thereafter, followed by the signing of Engelland and Bollig. Along with players like Ferland and Bouma, the Flames are tougher, and it seems to be making a big difference in this series against the Canucks. Not only is that toughness helping to free up the puck and in so doing create more scoring chances, maybe more importantly, they are getting under the Canuck's (and their fans lol) skin, causing them to take unnecessary, costly penalties and even raising the spectre of possible suspensions. As far as my change of heart with Feaster, this is essentially his team. He was responsible for the bulk of the changes that have turned this team around. It's too bad that the management hadn't listened to him a couple years previously when he wanted to trade Iginla - they might have got some real quality players if they would have traded at that time. With this series starting to transcend the line of tough into dangerous on both sides, I would expect tomorrow's game to be a lot less chippier albeit just as physical and intense.

I would've loved to read this if it were in shorter paragraphs. TL; DR.

What?

Agreed on The Jets winning some games.

I am a Hawks fan through and through, but if they get knocked out and the Jets move on, they get my support. Big Buff was a key player for Chicago during their first cup run in 2010, he'd still be there if it wasn't for the salary cap. And I love the Tyler Myers trade. Saw him play in Buffalo last year against the Hawks, is a stellar defenceman, awesome trade for the Jets.

Hiller put on a spectacular show....at selling a minor hit to the refs, which they bit on. LOL. Effing joke. He could fit with the Bruins perfectly and all their diving and cheating.

Good job, refs. How much did Hartley pay you guys?
Are you serious?

It was a penalty, there was no need to hit Hiller.
Weber's skate almost got stuck in Hiller's pad.
Watch the overhead view.

Still it's been a fun series to watch, mostly because these teams don't like each other.

I think both teams had marginal calls against them & both teams got away with stuff.

But with only 2 series at 3-0, we could see a lot of game 7's.
Which would be cool.

I'm not saying it was accidental contact. It was obvious Weber misjudged when he was trying to skate for the puck. Hiller just did an excellent job selling such a small hit.

Impressive sight in Winnipeg with the "White Out" - what great fan support! Shame they weren't rewarded with a win, and tough for 2 games to be tied up when they were so close to winning them. Kudos to the Jets for putting on a good fight. I know it's not over until the fat (in their case pretty) lady sings, but at 0-3 for the series looks like a case of "maybe next year."

Do you know that the Jets have led games for 65 minutes in the series and Anaheim has led for 11? And we're down 3-0.

Anaheim can go **** themselves.

Damnnnnn that sucks for Jets fans. It reminds me of Columbus in 2008 or 2009. Their first playoffs and then getting swept. It's because they're not used to the higher level of intensity. They'll come back next year with a better knowledge of how playoff hockey works. And they will win games in the playoffs.

I was planning on rooting for the Jets if the Canucks got eliminated, but I guess that might seem a bit unlikely.
