Official Eventide Stompbox (H9/Factor Series) Club!!!

I've had two Eventide units, a Pitchfactor and an H9, go bad on me. Both times Eventide fixed it for only one-way shipping even though they were technically out of warranty. So I think the customer service is pretty good but I worry about how rare these events actually are.

I found a few others online who have experienced the same issue and had to return it for service:

While I first reported the problem Technical Support suggested I purchase a replacement power supply but when that didn't help they quoted a flat rate of $100 incl return shipping since I'm also technically out of warranty. I'm pretty sure mine is less than a year old, but I'm not the original owner. We'll see.....

Can you change what the 2 H9 footswitches and center rotary thing do when pressed? @Adamixoye? I'm clicking around in the H9 control app settings and don't see it - I only see assigning aux switches

Off the top of my head I would say no, but I'm not sure. All of that stuff I do by MIDI. I don't think you could change the buttons on the Factor series either, except for switching between "Bank" and "Play" mode. All the assignable stuff is the external switch/MIDI stuff.

You can assigne any function to one of the aux switches, but the pedal switches are not customizable

that's a bummer

A question for anyone with a MODFACTOR or H9...

Can you set an effect up so it will work like a LPF that you can sweep through with an expression pedal?

something like the Moog LPF or the Xero Dlx sweep?

Either Modfilter or Q-Wah I think. The latter is a wah, you can set it to an LPF and control it via expression. I'm not totally sure how the Modfilter is different, but I think you can do dubby sounds with it.

Not sure how good they sound, but in principle it is possible.

Thanks for the reply, I figured you could use it but was wondering for any real world experience- as I cannot find any demos of someone doing this. I am trying to justify a H9 Max purchase, but am needing to be able to do the long slow filter sweep that I can do with my Xero Dlx.

If anyone could try and recreate a deep/long filter sweep that would be amazing.

When you have a chance, can you record a clip of exactly what you are after? I could try recreating it.

Wow! that would be super handy.

Wont be till late tonight but will try record with my phone (sorry- no recording set up, but you will get the gist), or if I can find a youtube clip in the meantime I will post that. Thanks heaps for the offer @nshuman

No problem. I'll keep an eye out for that and see if I can replicate it tomorrow. If I get close, I'll record it.

Hey @nshuman so recorded a little clip on my phone but am having a hell of a time trying to load it up. So I found this one on the Youtube, it is close enough. clearly there is a lot more going on. But its just the basic slow sweep function I am wanting the H9 to do.

Ok, I'll try to do that on the H9 tomorrow. I get what you are after, I think.

Ok, to get somewhat close to that video, I used the Broughton Sunder Fuzz 2.0 for dirt. Sorry, I forgot about the reverb and I set up my the modfilter on my H9 that is last in the chain. Anyway, no reverb :)

So, here are the settings:

And here is what it sounds like:

Obviously, you would want to change the intensity and sensitivity range to match your bass/dirt/etc and also to get the start and end of your sweep just right. Hope this helps.

Side note: if people don't realize the Modfactor algorithms are the worst, relatively speaking, they just need to check out how many have "unused" parameters.

Wow! That sounds perfect. Thanks for that @nshuman

Just to clarify you controlled the sweep via expression pedal? Also I notice there is no resonance knob in the editor. Is there some way to make it more/less peaky/synth sounding?

Hello!
Just have read H9 settings topic and found this club.. Its my rig , dont need anything more. All are max ,synced together with one tap tempo, two of them are pre before other pre/post before and in effects loop. Algorythms are sorted pre/post depends on signal chain rules. I can highly recommend softstep as a controller Its totally configurable. Hope to find interesting H9 presets... I'll take a number please
