I'm planning on getting an H9 and thought this would be a good place to ask a few questions.

1) I'd like to go to the MAX. Any suggestions on the cheapest way to do this? It seems like it's cheaper to get a standard unit and then add algorithims using discounted iPod cards. Is there a downside? I guess if I sell it and deregister it, the next guy wouldn't get a max? Anything else? I'm not finding much discounts on the max beyond the 699.

2) I don't have an iPhone (it's a Windows phone), but I do have an expression pedal and a footswitch controller (the digitech 3 button one). Will I be miserable for editing patches on the unit? I figure I can do the USB editing and patch assigning with my (Windows) laptop, but can I be playing through it at the same time?

3) If I find a used unit (any of the levels), am I still able to max it out?

4) Is the looper really bad, even for practicing? I use a JamMan now. I know I can't do other effects and the looper, but eventually I'd like to get an H9 Core.

5) Really asking for pedalboard space issues - how's the tuner? Anyone try it with a low B?

Also, if you go the H9 Normal or H9 core + update route, find some itunes gift card on sale, you can usually save anywhere from 10 to 20%.

Yeah, I typed iPod cards but I meant iTunes cards. Getting them at a discount seems to make the upgrade route a little cheaper than starting with a Max, unless I'm missing something (likely).

I gig with an H9 and I don't know how or why you'd use an iPad to control the H9 on a gig.

I use my iPad to develop and load patches on the H9. Once I'm on the gig, I use the footswitch and an aux switch to step forward/backwards to the patch I need.

For a couple of months now I've been using mobile devices to control my pedalboard via MIDI. This works because I play at church and have a music stand. I use this for patch changes between songs. In-song switches I use the available buttons on the devices.

I found a standard used but mint LNIB and never registered. The only issue is that it won't register lol. It comes back with a device-not-recognized error. I'm wondering if it has to do with the very out-versioned firmware...it's running 4.4.6. But I can't upgrade it without logging in so I can't test my theory. I have an email to Eventide to fix it...mostly no bother though because I love n-ary menu trees, in fact I've developed a few myself, and this thing is pretty butter. Well, it's butter except for one thing...there is no way to scroll through the on-board algorithms...it's a super awkward and frustrating way to work grrrrr. I know this was added to later versions...but what were they thinking lol? Otherwise I think it's every bit as easy to navigate on the pedal as my Strymon box. I'm irritated that I can't go download the EQ Compressor because I'm going to carve out some smoothie dub tones with that eq. Please fix me Eventide.

My board is all fresh from surgery and cleaned and it's time to hit the floor. Number me please!

I see your point, but, used my iPad at my gig last night and it worked pretty well. I was very pleased. Just like Adamixoye said, changing patches between songs and making slight tweaks. I also like being able to see all the algos, the different presets and being able to go straight to what I instead of scrolling. I've only had my H9s for a few days, so as I get more presets made I may use the iPad less, but I like having the option to make changes on the fly.

So, while normal algorithms cannot be transferred, the ones used in the upgrade program are because the device becomes a MAX, according to Eventide at least :)

Picked up my H9 Sunday. I got the core and bought 15 algorithms to get it maxed out. I like to play some Alice In Chains as well as some Dio. I did a Google search today for de-tuning with the H9 and I found a thread at the Eventide forum that showed how to tune a half step down.
You use the Pitch Flex algorithm. Here is a pic of it from my H9 control on my iPad. I have to say, I really can't tell a difference between it or my bass actually being tuned down. Its awesome to now be able to play songs that are tuned different without re-tuning or switching basses.

I maxed out today (last day I think).

I figured for the price of one quality effect pedal I get an entire palate of effects. So many of these tones are inspiring.

The number of sounds on this now is practically limitless.

I only wish you could put two or more algos on at the same time.
