Speaking of putting CS, humbuckers or singles on the 55-01. Can anyone comment on the position of the pickups on the 55-01 model? Is it any close to a JB? As far I can see, the bridge pickup is pretty much into the body, probably farther than that of the 60-ies JB... Any ideas?

Thank Evan!! So far I can tell that the Chi's do exactly to a J bass that I thought they would...make it delicious! High notes are thinker and more rounded, and not as much fret noise. A little bump in the tone knobs give it a bite that is different that the natural one. Still trying to place my finger on it...

I can measure some J's, but don't have a 55-01. this needs to be a group effort to get an answer. Do you wan tto post the measurements of your 55-01?

Yep! The CS sounds a little more modern, but not in a bad way. I'll do more head to head testing tomorrow.

Diggin' the surfer! I still can't put my JO5 CS down.

I'd be reeaalllyyy interested to hear how the single coil Chi's compare to the humbucker Chi's on the Decade, especially with an ear towards native SC and 'toggled' SC mode.

Actually, I mentioned last week in the thread that I was headed here, no biggie. I live in OKC currently and will be stationed in Corpus Christi, TX once all my training is completed at the Academy in OKC. I put in a request for OKC but didn't get it.

Based on the Chi'd up Js I've played, including Doug's, I would agree. At first, I recall he was concerned there wasn't enough top end. But it was very easy to EQ it in. Congrats on another great bass, my friend!

The thing is, I don't have a 55-01. I was THINKING of getting one and a sweet pair of Chi-s. After all, the 4-63, JS do use the same body too...

As I've said ONE MILLION times before, if it was only a fiver.... I really loved my Chi loaded one, just couldn't use it live.
