This very cool UPS man walked up and was wondering what I was grinnin about. Anyway, the RIC looks perfect, nice white bindings, reasonable action, but I will drop it after I bastardize it with a BEAD set of strings.....sound heavenly through the Ampeg 810/CL stack, the midnight blue is better than I remember.

Added bonus was that the Shaller strap locks work with the knubs that are on the bass, so I get to take these strap locks back to Sam Ash.....:hyper: Also the case is very nice!

MFG date March 2011......I am lucky!

Welcome back to Rickenbacker after 28 years.....never lost the love for the sound and looks. Never thought I would again own one. When did the price go crazy on these things?

Thanks TB and MF

UPDATE: Dropped a 5 string set into this baby, slight nut groove adjustment and lowered the action. Removed the treble cover. Find I will need a bezle or cover for the open bridge p/u to plant my thumb. Nasty sounding base!

Just adding myself back to the list; was at 32 but got lost somewhere along the line.

Also, others reported MF being out of stock. Their website shows the same, with a shipping date of 7/13/12. Still a chance they could offer other colors as an exchange if you return yours, but I wouldn't count on it.

My journey has been a long one , ordering august 2nd and returning what I would say was a "lemon".

My new one is set to arrive at or before 10:30 am. I guess I am nervous , more nervous then i should be with a bass that sales for nearly 2 grand. With all these problems I hear , I fear yet another lemon.

Hoping there is something I am able to love when I open that box, if not I dunno what I will do now that there sold out.

I'd be optimistic... you have to take into account the statistics of internet feedback... more of the people who got bad ones voiced it loudly on here, while more of the positive experiences get a quick short sound-off or are not reported, because the owner's too busy playing his/her new Ric

And worst case scenario man, if our replacements are beefed too, we return em and life goes back to normal.

I agree, and considering the price paid plus fret leveling and setup ($250), I am still ahead of the game as far as total cost compared to paying full price......However, I have never had to involve a luthier to get any of my other basses playable. I think it will all be worth it in the end for that killer "RIC TONE".............:D

It's not OK to have to pay 250.00 for a fret job on a brand new 2k instrument. And of course, you will void the warranty if you do. How about shipping it back to Ric and get the fret job under warranty?

According the guy I spoke with at MF, Ric has dealer agreements with Canadian retailers which precludes MF from selling Rics to Canadians....
So, if I want a Ric, I am looking at somewhere in the $2,200 dollar range...
Fishheadjoe

I was able to get one on the way to Norway. Sure you explored all the possibilites?

I had to use a third party shipping company called JetCarrier to recieve the shipment from MF(UPS), and have them ship it overseas to Norway. Maybe there are similar options you could try out?

A proper set-up doesn't void a warranty, but since when is a fret job part of a proper set-up on a new instrument? If the bass needs a fret job, RIC will do it under warranty.
And, by the way, if you are fortunate enough to get a RIC shipped outside North America, the bass will arrive with no warranty.

How is yours coming along, mine is due to arrive at my freight forwarders in a few hours.

Here's the intriguing coincedence, I was Google Mapping the UPS trail of my bass, and realized that my freight forwarder is in Ohio next to the Invalid Link Removed and Airforce Base. Hahhahaa. Its a Sign!

Filing high frets is always part of a proper setup (at least for those of us who like low action). Given that RIC allowed my new $1900 instrument out of their shop with high frets, I can't fathom sending it back to them and getting any better.

Mine arrived at the forwarder two days ago. But they only send over shipments each Friday, and on Monday it should be handled and shipped to my place. Shipping usually takes two days, so August 17th is probably when it arrives.

With all this hassle I won't return it for any minor finish issues. There has to be playability flaws before I even consider returning it. If it has flaws that I'm not happy with I'll end up selling it and make a profit either way.
