Agreed. Not a great analogy at all.

With the car, you are milling the heads to increase compression and performance. It wouldn't void all warranty either - it wouldn't effect anything in the suspension, brakes, electronics, etc just like any aftermarket part that is installed - those don't void warranty unless that part had a direct effect on a warranty claim.

With the bass, you are trying to make it playable because it wasn't shipped as such.

Let's end the derail and back to the discussion about the shipped basses, happy and unhappy owners alike.

I just spoke with M123 customer service and interestingly, they can ship me a Mid BLue RIC at the $1,299 price but cannot apply the dicount noted above to Ric products.
Funny how one retailer can't ship to Canada and another can...
Hmmmm... gonna talk it out with the wife....

Really? I tried to exchange this AM and the agent told the remaining inventory is spoken for. I may try again...

8 returns divided by 45 = 83% happy enough with their new Ric to keep it. That percentage may go up after all the exchanges are completed.

+1, when I talked to MF on the phone, they said that as soon as they initiate the exchange on their end (which happened in real time while I was on the phone) one of their inventory was set aside with my name on it, pending them receiving my return.

Lookin like Monday or Tuesday for me, band practice is Tuesday night, I really hope it comes Monday

I found that quite interesting as well. And I know at least one went back because the buyer didn't like the thickness of the neck, which is as designed, not a flaw.

I also think the issue of the damage to paint around the bridge could be impact damage from shipping. As we know at least one of these apears to have fallen from great height to sustain the damage it did.

I have a feeling there are a few votes that are a) pre mature and rated on price alone, b) accidental/not even participating/ric-haters/lovers, or c) those who do not wish to put their name on the list for the sake of future sales on here or ebay linking back to them when a potential buyer seeks out info.

FYI, I haven't voted yet.

I have one of those basses and I can promise you it's not shipping damage.

Wow. This thread has definitely stirred up a lot of general discussion about Rickenbacker basses in general, both here and at the Rickenbacker message boards. I have to wonder if this surge in interest because of the sale price might spur Rickenbacker to lower the MSRP on the 4003 basses since they seem to be moving a lot faster at MF's sale price.

I'm betting a bunch of the votes comes from people voting random at the forum front page. As noticed random polls are displayed on the top right on the front page, and a few quite likely just voted something for the kicks.
