Just wanted to add my name to the list of happy purchasers. Mine arrived Monday 8/8. Box had a gash but the case and bass were flawless. White binding, no finish problems, born the first week of November, 2010. Needed a neck tweak and is playing & sounding great. Pickup cover comes off tonight and its my new gigging 4 string.

The bridge on the Ric I received has the "tail lift" that has been mentioned by many others. Is that normal on the 4003, or is just this batch? Mine appears to have a decent string break angle, so I shouldn't worry about it right? Could it turn into a problem in the long run?

Filing high frets is always part of a proper setup (at least for those of us who like low action). Given that RIC allowed my new $1900 instrument out of their shop with high frets, I can't fathom sending it back to them and getting any better.

Well Ric also let bases out of their factory with chipped paint, truss rods at their end of adjustment, and shoddy workmanship....so why would you think the frets would not of been looked over on a few?

The best way to address this question is to post it on the Ric forum. I am pretty sure that doing a fret job on a new bass will void the warranty.

I also play with very low action. I have never had to level the frets on any new bass I have bought, including my new Sting Ray.

I'm a fan of low action too, and have al my basses (mostly RIC's) set up with low action. Because RIC sprays the board with clear over the frets after they've been installed, then does a fret job, they tend to be lower to begin with. Think of it this way, if you buy a new Camaro and mill the heads for higher compression as part of your tune-up, you WILL void the warranty on the engine.

Count me in. Got the $10 off. It is from August 2010 and looks flawless. I was worried after hearing about all of the QC issues. Can't wait to play it after work today.:hyper:
