The problem is there’s nothing inside the bass to attach knobs to.
My guitar tech suggested finding a cabinet maker to make some plugs for the holes. Someone on Facebook suggested putting leds in there, but that doesn’t really appeal to me.

And what I mean by put the board back in; don't hook it back up, just put it in, so you can put the pot nuts back on, and install the knobs... still the best look than anything else you can do...

I get what you mean, but having 4 knobs that do nothing would just bother me more than just figuring something else out. But what that ends up being I have no idea at this point.
Maybe an ovoid of some material to cover that space. Red Rose Speedway decal?

What about plugs with some decorative side to them? Maybe ones that fit just above the surface and have pearl or cool wood tops?

Found these black plastic plugs in my garage…..they work perfectly.

Just thought I would keep this thread going with another awesome Tune bass. Here's my MIJ neck-thru 8 string. I'm not sure, but I think it's an ash top, ash core and walnut back? Nice dark ebony fingerboard on a 3-piece maple neck. Pickups are active EMGs with an 18V Tune preamp, very similar to the one described in some of the early postings here, but with a single internal trimpot for overall preamp gain. Definitely the nicest/best-sounding 8 string I've ever played, and currently strung a la Chris Squire with octaves on the E and A strings, and fifths on the D and G strings. Loads of fun!

Very cool! I like 8 string basses, but I've had a hard time finding a group that I get to play one in.

Maybe you should share these photos and story here: the official 8-String (octave courses) bass club

Before I found the plugs, I did notice a louder acoustic output. (Still not loud enough to be heard over other acoustic instruments, though.)
The tape was just me trying out something I’d seen Carol Kaye do to reduce overtones.
It didn’t have that much of an effect, so I removed it.
