I have a few HoF submissions... I'm using the "rule of general public" under the assumption that they're actual music fans.

• Les Claypool and the Carl Thompson "Rainbow Bass"
• Cliff Burton and his Aria "Black and Gold"
• Flea and his Stingray (Even after the Modulus, is it even possible to think of a Stingray without thinking about Flea?)

My Zon's preamp appears to be going south on me. It is cutting out really bad, and sometimes will not work at all unless I tap the bass a few times.:( And being unemployed, I can't have it looked at. The fingerboard also appears to be separating from the neck. That has been going on for about 4 or 5 years.

I still love the way it sounds, when it works, and I love the way it looks!

What preamp does it have, Jeff? If you take a few pictures of it, I might be able to see what's wrong. Either way, I can probably help you fix it.

Also, take some pictures of the fingerboard/neck- it might not be separating. Cosmetic finish issues with their necks often look like separations...I've seen a number of them.

It does have a barrel jack, but not the kind that most basses have- they use a totally different jack to other manufacturers most of the time.

Jeff (embellisher jeff), a picture could help- sometimes there is a very obvious problem. I'm willing to bet it it's just the jack going, but it's worth a shot. What type of cable are you using? Monster? I also want to see which jack your particular bass has.

Generally, when shaking makes something better, it's either a jack issue or a grounding issue (either a poor ground connection or two wires touching that shouldn't). The latter problem is less of an issue with printed boards, so it's probably the jack.

Mainly more of the same totally amazing stuff, but he did have a new model of Sonus Custom there. It was 34" scale, 24 frets, and 19mm spaced. It sounded and played AWESOME. In fact, Joe and I will be discussing some things this year. :) I think he also said it may become the new "standard" for the Custom model. Time will tell. I can post pics later.

I had a friend, who has a lifetime experience playing acoustic and electric bass/ amateur recording engineer, try my Sonus Special 4 string fretless and my TJ5 fretless side-by-side yesterday. We used my TecAmp cabinet and Markbass F1 amp. His immediate response was that the TJ5 sounded 'much richer'.

I'm not surprised by that at all, doesn't the Special's pickup layout produce a very upper-mid forward kind of sound?

Wondering when bass building will resume at Zon, after NAMM.
