Well it's at least shaped like a Hyperbass. It's only missing the hyper part (detuners).
Not really. The web page says it's specifically designed for detuning, and even though you're right about the first one built for MM, to be a Hyperbass, you just have to have a three-octave fretless neck, a heel-less extended cutaway, a bookmatched curly maple top laminated to a poplar body core, black hardware and single humbucking pickup with ZP2-S active electronics. Believe it or not, the extenders are optional. If you go to the Zon page and bring up the configuration tool, you'll see this.

It is a Hyperbass- version II. It's missing the expensive parts- the detunibg bridge and detuners, which would make it a version I. Otherwise, that one is a hyperbass. I think it's one of two lined ones out there, iirc.

Agreed. I'm already putting money aside for one of these babies:

And of course I'm still eyeballing those sexy imports too...

...with the burl top though, of course. =P

That Sonus special is my favorite Zon also... other that mine...:):):)

I stand corrected.

However, I was really being facetious and going by my definition of what was "Hyper" about the bass.

Yeah, but really, I agree with you as far as my opinion goes. IMHO what really makes it truly a "hyperbass" is all the detuning stuff MM made it famous for. But hey, whadda I know, right? :D

By their own nomenclature, it IS a Hyperbass- there are just two versions. Their website is not clear on this, as you can't price out the full version I hyperbass.
That makes sense... I couldn't find the option for the tunable bridge on the configurator I was on!

Go Zon!

I just picked up this beauty from TBer Travis Harms (great guy). Fantastic fretless!

I think fretless basses are just really difficult to get right, and have struggled for a number of years to track down the right bass. This one is the end of the road for me. BTW, it is actually my 3rd Zon and 2nd Zon fretless. The previous two were an Elite standard and a fretless Sonus 4. This instrument is just much better; and everything I will need. Yeah baby.

Congrats - I noticed that bass in the classifieds, and hoped that it would find some love. My Sonus Special fretless gets a lot of playing, gigging and recording time. Incredible instruments.

Nice sig, too BTW.

That is gorgeous! I've wanted to try one of those for a long time. Not necessarily buy, but try. The pickup configuration appeals to me.

I share your opinions about fretless basses. I've finally found what works well for me, after several attempts.

Thanks, it will find a Whole Lotta Love here.

Can't take cred for the sig; I actually scooped it from the heat shield at my fav espresso shop here in Tempe - Steve's Espresso. Apparently not copy right protected, so figured I would spread the word; good words to live by.
