Once again, Rush dissapoints

Actually, I disagree with this 1000%. I don't think Rush has any idea what the fans want, especially since there has indeed been a sizeable amount of fans saying "no more Sawyer" for YEARS!

Plus, Jacobs's Ladder has been on everyone's wish list for 20 years, and only now are they getting around to playing it. In reality, I don't think Rush takes into account the fans when choosing their set list at all, but this is just conjecture on my part since I am not privy to their decisions. I can only go by my reaction as a true, long-term, 30 year Rush fan to their setlist.

I AM staying home (unless I decide to go at the last minute). But mainly because Geddy can't sing at all any more. I was not really one of the ones complaining about the setlist (although that's certainly a contributing factor). I was mainly comment on WHY people are unhappy.

I mean, after 40 years of playing the same handful of stuff, why NOT do something a little different for the last big go round? Financially I would expect that would be MORE successful than the same tired setlist. If they said they were going to play all of CoS or Farewell to Kings, people would COME OUT OF THE WOODWORK to come see them, that otherwise probably would not (just like on the 2011 tour when they did MP).

Anyway, this is America and this is a message board, so people are going to voice their opinions whether they're good, bad, or otherwise. I mean, kind of the point of the thread is people staying home because they're disappointed with the presumed setlist. So if that's not how YOU feel, you are actually the odd one out here, and perhaps should stop "complaining about the complaining"?

Wow, that's a very immature reaction. Start a Rush cover band? And where did I ever say Rush OWES me ANYTHING? All I wrote in my OP was that the setlist is lame and I'm glad I'm not going. Nowhere does it say in any way, shape or form, "Rush personally dissed me by name because they did not call me up when formulating their setlist to get my esteemed opinion. For this reason I am not their fan anymore!"

Took the words right out of my mouth. I, for one, as a Rush fan since 1981 and whose first concert was the Moving Pictures tour, am staying home because of the setlist. I WOULD have gladly spent the $ on the show if it was indeed the "deep cuts" show they advertised.

As a long term fan (since 1979) who's never had a really decent chance to see them without major travel involved, just go and enjoy the show already.
Or not.

It'd be pretty cool to see they're doing all of Caress of Steel (or even side one), but that's pretty unlikely.
Just give me another DVD and I'll get by.
(I'm sure that's in the works anyway)

As long as they're playing Limelight, Spirit of Radio, 2112, and a few songs from Feedback, IDGAF about people complaining.

I haven't had the luxury of seeing them in 1981 or 1986 or whenever because I wasn't even born then. I'll take every show I can get until they officially retire.

Of course, you are right, they have absolutely no idea. That's why they are still selling out stadiums and selling records.

You people slay me.

First Band I was in was a "Rush" band...yup I like them (not a super fan but like them)....saw them last time they were in Chicago - To be honest a waste of $60....we were so far up in the stadium that I could hit my head against the back wall....

The stage was a very small vision...VERY small....even the huge video screens were hard to see.

The reek of (bad) pot and the terrible reverb/echo gave me a headache.

To to it off, the audience was FULL of fathers trying to get their sons into the music...the lack of enthusiasm from these fathers and sons was a drag...

OK - I ma an old curmudgeon....

I will wait for and will get the super deluxe DVD blue ray, save money and get a better view of the concert....and watch it without paying $20 for a beer.

Wow! Selling out "stadiums." Umm, I think Rush played a stadium show once in the US, and a few times in Brazil, where they did sell out. But Rush has not played a US Stadium show since 1984 at best. They are playing mostly amphitheaters, which is a huge step down for them. The arena shows they are playing don't sell out, as evidenced by the remaining seats still left. So, a little more research on your part is needed, although as one Rush fan to another, you certainly have heart.

As far as selling records, yes, there will always be momentum to buy their records, but speaking personally, the last Rush album I bought was Vapor Trails, which IMO is an amazing record. But Rush's record sales, like all artists, are way, way down from their peak.

Anyhow, I never got personal about any of this, so the same respect shown to me would be very helpful.

I dunno what's worse - the fact that you listed Brann Dailor as being in the same tier of drumming as Neil, Portnoy, and Bozzio, the fact that you actually proposed him being a suitable replacement for Neil Peart, or that nobody bothered to criticize this for two pages.

I'm taking my son to see them at Madison Square Garden in June. It will be his first concert ever. A bit of a nogalstic event for me because my first concert was Rush during the Moving Pictures tour. The last tour I saw was Presto and I was so disappointed. I remember being a bit deflated because they seemed old and tired. It crushed me but perhaps they just had an off night.

In any event I'm looking forward to sharing this experience with my boy. I can understand the frustration of some here because there are tunes that I would love to hear as well. I guess we all go for different reasons. I'm really looking forward to seeing the show and know going in that Geddy will be adjusting melodies, etc, but I'm willing to overlook that and respect how this band has lasted for 40 years without killing each other!! That is an amazing feat itself! Lol!!

Actually, I am not a big Rush fan, although I appreciate their music. But I think it is hilarious how for 11.9 months of the year, all I hear is how wonderful Rush is and how wonderful Lee is on bass. Now that the tour is not people's exact choice of songs, they come down on them like a ton of bricks.

And while they may not be as big as they were in their heyday, considering they are in their 60s, they are still one of the top drawing acts out there. In all, I think they know what they are doing, and certainly better than any of us.

I'm not one to put Brann Dailor in Neil's class, but even you gotta admit that the old man has slowed down quite considerably in the last few years. So much so that I would call Peart a mildly imaginative standard rock drummer now rather than the progressive god he once was. And I am saying this as a person who when I was a teenager in the 80's had posters of Peart all over my walls, so I have the right to "constructively critisize."

Hey uh, again, you guys get that Moving Pictures was a massive success in a way that no other Rush albums were/are, right?

Of the songs/singles from Moving Pictures, Tom Sawyer was the biggest one. It had a video that was actually played on MTV in normal rotation. Unlike...almost every other video they made.

Most of the random people on the planet that don't play an instrument, that have heard of Rush only know Tom Sawyer.

They're gonna play it. It's not rocket science.
