Glad to see him playing again, especially when I saw him on SNL with Bruno, sounded great!
His story was pretty sad, but I'm glad to see he made it and now is playing for a living!

He had the grey Precision Special. I remember him.
'Making His Band' was Diddy's best show imo. They took it off half season into it.

Let me put it this way, Bootsy Collins and Larry Graham and Stanley Clarke may have gone before, but I think Me'shell destroys them ALL when it comes to sheer groove power.

Also not exactly underrated but a guy that should be listened to more: Trevor Dunn. Besides being a good upright player, he played my favorite bass line of all time at the 1:55 mark:

Liked your post on behalf of the mention of Trevor Dunn, who is one of my all time favorite bass players, although I wouldn't exactly define him as underrated.

Mr. Bungle is just so much talent packed into one band, although I'd prefer Disco Volante or California anytime over their self titled debut album.

Anyway my candidate is Lou Barlow from Dinosaur Jr.

As a huge Funk lover myself, I am always looking for new Funk artists/bassists to listen to and learn from!
I gotta hear more of these tracks with this bass killa as soon as I'm done studying for this 3 year-long, Rock & Roll History exam!
I might actually have to throw this book out my window right now and listen to more of those tracks! Hehe Just don't tell my mother, she'd probably murder me! :smug:

I mean it feels like it's took me three years to study for this test, but in reality it's been like a week or 2!
Haha I just need to get a good grade on the last two tests for my first and only Freshmen semester of my entire life, then when Monday comes I can finally relax, play some bass all break, sleep in, eat till I throw up, and so many other blessing I cherish when it comes to the holiday break!
Also many thanks to ya Neal, I'll be sure to tell you the F I'll be receiving in those classes!
Only joking...well I hope I'm joking....Do you think?....Oh my gosh I got to study!!!

I don't know much about him but having been to a few karaokes over the years I've grown a fondness for Wong Ka Keung from a Hong Kong band called Beyond. Unheard of outside of Asia I reckon.

Some really nice lines - skip through to the solo as the majority of the song is very basic apart from that, but this is the song that first caught my attention.

man, I hear ya. I graduated last Spring with my Bachelors of Music Ed, and was just thinking this weekend how at this time last year I was stressing over tests and stduent teaching. Now I just get to sit and play bass and drums, eat as you said, and ice skate as well as ride my bike. Keep on it though! Don't be like me and blow off your time in school as a young'n. While I am glad I got my degree, going back as a 40+ year old was hard

Congrats man and the fact you went back to school takes a lot of courage because some people think getting an education is important at all, but I mean when I see people that age going back to school I just can't help but respect them! I'll try to keep on with school man, it's been way hard and sometimes I want to quit, but I think about my future and the fact I actually get to go to a University while some people don't get opportunities like that!
