If you are doing this for the money, you are in the wrong business. Most clubs will not pay for an original band. They would rather have you put somebody on the door and have a cover charge. You get what you bring in. That way, there is no risk to the venue. My suggestion is to make this arrangement with a club and make sure you pack the place.
Many years ago my band ran into a similar situation. The club held about 300 people. Our agreement was that we take the door and the club would provide advertising. The first time we played, they didn't run an ad and we made a total of $29. The next time, they ran an ad but had the wrong band listed. We made a $100. The next time, I ran the ad. We packed the place to the point that there were people waiting outside to come in. We made over $1,000 that night and then the owner agreed to pay us for future shows. We got $500 for a weeknight and $1,000 on Friday and Saturday. They also made us their house band.
