OVNIFX Smoothie Compressor

Awesome to hear, thanks! I look forward to any other user comments. There is one guy who decided the Smoothie wasn't to his taste, so he's returning it. Not a big deal, I figure one out of 16 is a pretty good ratio! Again though, all user comments are welcome and appreciated.

Great pedal - you aren't getting mine back :)

Lots of flexibility; started with everything at noon and it was very easy to dial different effects in. Very quiet. Like the LED indicating compression - makes it easier (at least for me), to see what the knob tweaking is doing (at least to a point).

I highly recommend this compressor. This and an MS-60B pretty much have me rigged. I think you would sell every one quickly if you made another batch. :)

Just a heads up bongo - personally, I would buy effects branded with OVNI. I wouldn't buy effects by PEAR labs.

Who is PEAR labs? Some company bongo gave tips to? Okay, not interested. Maybe they took his advice, maybe they didn't. There are other companies.

Who is bongo/OVNI? A pedigreed (compressor) pedal reviewer and someone with a trusted opinion. Yeah, I'd buy effects from that guy.

Except the name - PEAR labs? I associate that with psychic researchers and the audiophile cable people. I would still buy bass boxes from bongo, but it may be a strike for some people.

Whatever the name is on it, you can only buy it through ovnifx. It he's willing to back the product by stocking and selling it, isn't that more important than a label? I bet he would break out the masking tape and sharpie if it would make you feel better.

I've gone from the Diamond to the Empress (still have it) and tried the Moen U-Lite (nice) and now have the sfx Micro Comp (on the fence with this one though it sounds good and I love the size)......would prefer a "phattener" comp with more versatility.....is the Smoothie my next Compressor?

bongomania: (and anyone who wishes to contribute)

(First a little obligatory adoration..):)

bongomania: Thanks for the education on compression via the ovnilabs site. So very informative, entertaining and informative. This old dude is thankful.

That said, I would like your opinion: I play a 100T tube amp, all finger and some (little) pick playing (e.g. Foo Fighters). I love the idea of a compressor pedal to further even and thicken my sound makes sense to me. I have been considering the Aguilar Octimizer. I know this is a subjective question, but does it make sense that compression could still benefit my sound even though full tube amp?

Any thoughts, not excluding any others' participation, would be appreciated.

Marc

Compression is kind of like salt or spice in food: too much or too little makes the food less enjoyable, but only the individual taster can say how much is "just right".

So yes it is worth trying a comp with your amp; but there's no guideline to say whether anyone in general will like the result.

For fattening, the Aggie comp wouldn't be my first choice, though it is very good otherwise.
