OVNIFX Smoothie Compressor

That's a very illuminating analogy, Bongo!

Of the two pedal compressors I've used in recent years for live work, the EBS Dual Band (black label series) hit me as even and transparent, while the Markbass Compressore noticeably phattened the tone.

Lately I've been hearing very good things about a box called the Smoothie...

The Octamizer is an octaver, which would indeed thicken the sound, but the Aguilar TLC is their compressor. ;)

Ha,ha…I knew that. :roflmao: Got busy typing and had a brain fart. I have been wrestling with introducing both compression and an octave to my sound through developing a small board. Seeing I have a tube amp that is very capable of round and full (i.e. fat sound), I wish for compression to be have subtle impact on my sound ( I know this is vague) and an octave to be there to ( again, subtly add the lower octave in the select instances where the low end drops out when venturing up the fretboard. :)

The Smoothie sure is exciting to consider as a contender. As mentioned I haver also been considering Aguilar and MXR options.

Thanks for chiming in ( you too bongomania!)

Yes, soon! :) The pedals are complete and will be shipping to me soon, and then there's the random wait time for transit through customs. That's a big part of my hesitation to announce a timeline: there's no way to know whether a package will skip right through customs, or get hung up there for weeks.

I use a Fender Roscoe Beck V, (passive) and a Fender Dimension V HH, (active). The RBV has low output, and the DV has high output. Since I prefer a more percussive sound from my comp, I typically keep the attack between 11 o'clock and 1 o'clock. Sensitivity is typically around 11 o'clock. Tilt is at noon, or 11:30. Level is around 10 o'clock, and Blend is around 2 o'clock. The pad is 0 for the RBV, and -20 for the DV. The controls are very wide ranging, so I don't need to move much from these settings to find the sound I want.

Here are my settings with passive pbasses.

I adjust the level and blend to taste but this is the usual setting I use for both basses!! I've found that I really like recording to tape with this compressor, it's really fat and warm on some songs and it's just great!
