OVNIFX Smoothie Compressor

image.jpeg

I've never actually gotten any comments from anyone who's run a battery from fresh to dead in the Smoothie. That said, the current draw is very low, so I would expect quite a long life as long as you remember to unplug the input cable.
:)

I received my new and first smoothie this week. Last night was my first full volume rehearsal using it and I have to say I really liked it. I was using a multi-comp off and on for many years but mostly didn't care for it much for some reason. This little gem is great for mild tone shaping as well as compression and sounds fabulous after my B7K ultra. Really love the layout and options designed into it and found it quick to understand and adjust on the fly. Great job.
I had been running a VT pedal in my chain but only used the character knob on it, and that strictly to make a quick change for a thicker tone or a bit more clear depending on mood, room and song. Last night I switched the VT off and used the EQ tilt or dry wet ratio on the smoothie and found that it does just as well if not better for my purposes, though the VT character actually effects some mids as well to my ear so more than a simple tilt I would imagine - I will have to try in several venues and rigs though to be sure. If so I will be glad to make room on the board for something else. All in all I am very happy so far.

Does the EQ tilt happen before the signal goes into the compressor or does it affect the post-compressed signal?

I love the demo video. Nice tone on the Mustang. It's unusual for compressed bass where I think a dry blend is good. This one is better than good.

Pulled out the Spector Euro 5 AW to scratch a few ideas together for a track I'm working on. I didn't realize I had the Smoothie on in my chain, and couldn't quite figure out why my bass sounded different, in a good way. I had been toying with the pedal on another bass earlier, and just never turned it off. Once I saw the light on, I decided to leave it on while I recorded. I tried turning it off for a take, but it was decidedly better with it on. Enough yakyakyak, here's some ones and zeros.
