P Bass and the Grammys

i was just thinking about this at work that all i am seeing is p basses. i fell like a dork for playing a jazz bass. if i was a hippster i could say that i like jazz basses before every one else did.

Grammy and music doesn't go hand in hand ... it was more of a festival of looks than music...

Everything music related is a joke now, I don't see how they can say they are artist. When is the last time some said Lady Gaga's music was nice and is bass player did something very surprising on the Cm7 chord ? no never ... they talk about her wierd dress or the choregraphie in the video clip, no world on the actual music ... same thing for every "artist" nowaday ...

The two best tones I heard were Jamaero's P and Garry Tallent's signature short-scale Spector. On that note, that was the most present I've ever heard Garry in the mix in a Bruce performance.

Garry was up front in the mix and sounding great! He made that song rock

Funny thread - I think it may have been the first time Foster the People had to lip sync - they weren't in sync. And why put the Beach Boys in the thick of it. It looked like a bunch of corpses on stage.

I thought the Beach Boys looked like an old surfer version of Disneylands Country Bear Jamboree.

It was the first on the scene, so it is *the* bass sound. That's why it's easy to get a great sound with a P - it *is* the sound.

hmmm....I always raise an eyebrow when someone says this....Upright Doublebasses were used in studios for decades before Leo ever designed a P bass, and they sounded good too. Listen to Jameson on one. I dig his upright playing.

What this is telling us is that p-bass is popular amoung popular music, no secret there. Unfortunately the Grammy's are not what they used to be. Is not always a good measurement for the best. The movie industry is lucky to have Oscars. Unfortunately for the dedicated perfectionists and virtuoso in our industry have the Grammys, which is actually more like the People's Choice awards. Grammy's are not necessarily a measurement of innovation and originality in music anymore, and not as respectable, like the Oscars are in movies, - atleast IMHO (example: **** You by Cee Lo Green)

Really? That song is one of the best pieces of pop/R&B to come out in years, IMO. If you get past the lyrics, there is some superb musicianship and songwriting, including a killer bass line. Very Motowny.

I agree, and I think the lyrics are hilarious. Fun piece of pop you can dance to.

The Oscars are as big a joke as the Grammys, always were. More about politics and demographics than quality, innovation or artistry.

More like most to the players are sponsored by fender and some by Gibson….
At their level when money is not an issue… I am sure they are better bass guitar than… a crude P bass….. just saying… I couldn’t read the whole thread because is huge… but this is my opinion
