Past basses ya still think about

There were several for me, but none of them would classify as "high end".
My very first bass, an Aria Pro II RSB (shown in this photo) -

I eventually painted it zebra striped. Then that wasn't enough, so I sprayed a transparent pink over that so it looked pink zebra striped. Then I sold it to buy my Ibanez Destroyer. I should have kept it, because I didn't need to sell it to buy the Ibanez, I could have had them both. I still regret selling my first bass ever.

Then there was a couple 80s Warlocks. I like the pointy ones, and I've owned a lot of pointy basses through the years. But the duo of a neon blue and neon green Warlock were about as hair metal as I could get. I still regret selling those.

This Peavey T40. I REALLY regret selling it. I wish I still had it. It was gorgeous and one of the rarer finishes.

I had a Greg Bennett/samik with a neck through and active preamp. It wasn't expensive, boutique, or anything close to my current basses...but I still think of it and wonder, once in awhile.

Way back when I was just a plebe I bought a used Peavey G Bass in metallic black. I had no idea what I had, but being a newbie, I found the weight and the long scale challenging, and the "shelving" EQ made nos sense to me. So mu dumb ass traded it for a brand new '99 Fender P Bass Lyte Deluxe. I love my P Bass, but I have never liked how it sounds, and that funky humbucker has made trying to upgrade it daunting, at best.

75 natural ash P bass which I bought about 30 yrs ago for not much before it all became too cool. Light, resonant and full of 70's vibe. Dang...

I had an '75 ash P bass, bought new in Kalamazoo in 1976. A burglar got it in 1993 or so. It was also lightweight and played great. The only one I think about much.

This is the only bass I’ve ever sold that I regret selling.

…and I missed getting it back twice.

I was actually looking at Jake’s site last night thinking about ordering another one, but I figured the configuration I’m going for this time is so common, maybe I can hold out and find one used.

I’m looking for a natural finish with a black pickguard, B90 pups and lollipop tuners… if anyone has anyone they are considering selling.

Edit: I do think about this refinish I did from time to time as well…

…though, it’s not full-on regret like the Midwestern.

I’ve been tempted to sell my ‘89 Warwick Streamer a few times. Glad I never did. So I still have the one that “didnt get away”
I dont play it much any more but it’s been my only bass for so many years.. Would miss it if it were gone

I have two, both Spector’s. My first Spector, an ‘87 Kramer era (the thing was a beast) and a 2017 Forte 5W I had built for me, but sold to a forum member when my wife got cancer to help with medical bills. The Kramer era is long gone (don’t remember the serial #) but would love to get the Forte back.

I miss my 1983 Fender Precision Elite II, black with maple fingerboard. It was a great bass but weighed almost 12lbs. and so was impractical for long gigs so I sold it. Worse still, it had been signed by Stevie Ray Vaughan. I definitely should have kept it but I was a foolish teenager at the time.

My (first) Ibanez SR500, it was the brown mahogany with the Bartolini MK1 pickups, but no mid selector switch.

That and a cream colored Squier CV 50s P. I wanted the Lake Placid Blue version instead, but never got around to purchasing it.

I have a bit of regret at selling a Lakland Skyline Joe Osborn, because it was a lovely teal green, but I don't really like Jazzes anymore, so it's fine.

My 2nd bass - the color, more than the instrument. A sparkling magenta Bass Collection SB301. Traded in 1996 for my first fretless bass.

1980 Ibanez Studio 8-string - I owned it from 1998-2003 (a year of which it sat on consignment in a local store, not moving). I wasn't playing much at all, had other basses, and needed the money. 4 years later, I started playing all the time and would have played the hell out of it. By then, it was too late.

The others I've sold/traded cross my mind occasionally, but I wouldn't reclaim them given the chance. No real regrets except those two.

Wow, lets see,, there's the '63 Jazz bass, 65' CAR Precision, the really early Musicman Stingray with plastic knobs, a really early G&L L1000, 2 Kubicki ex factors, the 27 Rickenbackers , the 2 Alembics, the Roscoe, and thats only some of the cool stuff.
