Peavey MiniMega 1000

Sweetwater quit posting dates, But they told me specifically two weeks ago that the last week of August/ first week of September was the ETA. i suppose that could have been wishful thinking, or a guess. But it seemed like an informed comment from a usually very reliable source. I hope so

I just checked MF. They pushed the date back to 9-7..... sheesh what a way to run a business.

I was only half-surprised to see the August 25th date pushed back at MF, though I had hoped that was the one that would "stick". 9/7 would jive with what the Sweetwater rep said, but we'll see. I wonder what all these estimates are/were based on.

On an obliquely related topic, anyone have experience with Peavey's warranty service?

Only from the provider point of view, and long since retired from that, but the factory tech support crew at Peavey has always been top notch.

It's been a long time so I honestly don't know how they are now, but I used to live an hour from their factory and it was SO easy to take one of their products in, sit for 20 minutes or so, and walk away with a like-new product.

The Italian Gran Prix? Had to look it up, I confess - makes as much sense as anything, though.

Re. the warranty service, that's good to hear. I know they're separate departments, and Peavey has a rep for solid amps in general - just wanted some assurance that, should I need it, getting the amp serviced would proceed in a more timely fashion than bringing it to market. No real reason to think it wouldn't, I guess.

I wonder if the power section of this will share tech with the IPR or Crest Prolite power amps? I just got a Prolite 3.0 and did my first gig with it this weekend and holy cow is that thing awesome! This thing sounds and feels like a heavy iron. If the power of Minimega is anything like one side of this Crest it going to absolutely rule the class D kingdom.

There was some discussion of the power section in this thread a ways back. I remember asking questions about how it was configured, but don't remember the exact answers. Pretty sure it's not just half of a Pro Lite, though.

A couple of people who heard a demo unit at NAMM chimed in to say that the amp was loud and clear, and I'm hoping that it has something approaching lead-sled slam, but I can't say how it would compare to one side of a Pro Lite.

....But I tell ya, take half the ProLite 3.0, add a simple preamp, a DI and you'd have a winner.

It will be interesting to see what hits the streets first, the MiniMega or the just announced Mesa Subway 800.
I'm thinking it will be the Mesa, which looks real interesting and is priced right.

I thinking the same thing...only the difference between 800w and 1000w is pretty small. I'd hardly ever need all 1000w. The Peavey does have a lot more features though.

I'll just have to wait until I can try them out in the music store...

I got a call two days ago telling me that WHEN I get my MiniMega, it will exceed expectations. There will be lots of happy folks. BUT...the eta is now late October.

I only wish Peavey put a tuner in the minimega. Somehow. It's got everything else, but this one feature I really like. The minimax looks so ugly, that I honestly don't even want it. It looks like it's a decade or more older than the mega. The minimega is the first peavey amp that I'd buy since I quit using only peavey amps after my ProBass 500 years ago. Up until that point, I only used peavey amps, then they just didn't meet my needs anymore. Now they do, and I want a tuner!

Probably better to keep backing up the release date than to have another debacle like the VSX speaker management system where they didn't discover the problems until after it was on the street and in use.

I was excited about this amp when I first saw the videos in January 2014. I've been watching the ship dates get moved back further and further, and I thought I even remembered a Peavey rep say that they were in shipment across the sea a few months back. Only speculation here but with no clear information from Peavey I am led to believe that the company is having financial issues...the Undercover Boss episode doesn't help with dispelling that assumption. Even if it is some sort of design/production issue I'm not sure I want to be a "beta tester". I'm still watching to see what happens with these amps but I wouldn't feel comfortable buying one until they get quite a bit of usage among players.
