Peculiar Hobbies

As a forum comprising mainly people who have chosen the electric bass as their primary instrument, it's probably already safe to say we have odd taste in hobbies.

I've made well clear by now my fondness for reading tarot, and more recently I've become smitten with the art of lockpicking.

I recall hearing many a curious pastime from you wonderfully colorful low-enders as it is, so let's scoop them all into one place to admire, shall we?

What are your unorthodox pastimes?

Maybe not all that unorthodox, but I like to build my own golf clubs.

A hobby is a past time that consumes all available time and all available cash. It's dangerous to have more than one, and by this definition your spouse/so also qualifies as a hobby and explains why they don't get along with your other hobbies (be it collecting, fishing, or other spouses/so's).

I need to unload my film camera gear - started getting into it around 2003. Got some MF stuff. And a box of 120 kept indoors. Haven't touched it in years. Still have a 10 year old undeveloped roll (silver) of a friend's wedding I should develop some day.

Good question!

I'm really into clothes and style, I absolutely love fashion and dressing tastefully-eccentrically. It's a hobby for me and one that I can do every day. A lot of my clothing style is influenced by 60's rock groups and beatnik fashion. Semi related to that, I like to make wristbands out of leather (and guitar straps) to use myself and give to my friends.

If animals count as a hobby, then my corgis and rodents would be one. I now just have one chinchilla, but used to have countless gerbils/degus/hamsters, you name it.

Peculiar and unorthodox is all point of view. Me:
1. Rubiks cube with the intention of messing with speed cubing - 3x3 & 2x2
2. Bass
3. Audio books
4. Surfing the web
5. Riding a bike
6. Fitness
7. Shooting
8. Knives
9. Sharpening knives
10. Slight gamer with phone games but find when they get too hard/challenging I rather just spend that time getting better on the bass.

That's it for now or at least what I can remember. I am sure there is more.

HO Scale trains, common enough but my area of interest is quite specific, central Utah in the mid 1970s. Everything I own (over 500 cars and locomotives) is appropriate for that. I often scratchbuild or modify existing models so they're period correct and always weather them so they look like real trains, not models.
I also collect glass telephone pole insulators, but don't have near as my of them as the trains.

Here's a model.

I do a lot of "antiquing" and sometimes run across insulators. If I find any unusual ones, I'll see if I can hook you up with them, if you are interested.

They can be worth some money, there is a website that helps identify and price them, mostly they're not expensive, however there are exceptions like blue colored glass, various mfgs. etc.

I collect vinyl records...not like a normal person. I've done it my whole life, and I really have to control myself. I'm also really into Volvos. Old ones, new ones,in between. Especially late 80's/early 90's 240s.
Roasting coffee, brewing beer, making kombucha, and raising herbs are things I enjoy, and beekeeping is calling my name. I think the bees would make my herb gardens even cooler...and local honey, etc.
