I believe my comment to look at Roberts Rules, comments with substance on the suggestion made in post 1. I was trying to provide guidance.

As a retired engineer, and mediocre bass player, I like standards. (double pun intended).
Most of the time, it does not matter, whether there is a formal declaration of subscribition, it is a matter of decorum and not one of dogma.

It seems to me that everyone has been good about staying within bounds here. Joe just offered a suggestion for the "Suggestion Box," and we've been debating the pros and cons. Some people have raised questions about the clarity of some of the rules, but nobody has blamed the mods for that -- and, it's led to some helpful posts by mods clarifying some of the issues. Nobody has questioned any mod's judgment about any particular case. If the discussion had run afoul of the rules, I'm sure the mods would have shut the thread down long ago.
I'm okay with a banners list but only if it includes mug shots.
I didn't know Nick Nolte was an ugly bass player.

great idea!
great idea: i just got some points for trying to be clever about using a word for excrement: if those things were posted (especially a ban) others would be reminded, too. IMO: very helpful to be reminded regularly...especially when the stuff starts flying and folks get wound up.
i think the rules are generally good for the forum and helpful for discussions/opinions. but i would definitely support Joe Nerve 's idea on this subject.

If I were banned, I would personally not wish it broadcast as to the reason. That would be between me and the forum mods who operate within the rules which are explicitly detailed and the responsibility of the forum user to abide by. If a forum user finds fault in the rules then they have the option of not using the forums.

TB and pirates, made me think of gaspsarilla (Named after a pirate named Jose Gaspar) day, was held on the gulf coast of Florida, in February. Float into town on a ship, fire off some cannons, wear strange garb (looking like Paul Revere and the Raiders, remember those guys from the sixties). Get pardoned by the Governor of Florida

TB's rules are available via link from EVERY PAGE ON THE SITE. If that's not easy enough of a reminder for you, you expect us to believe a list of banned members and the reasons why posted in ONE place is going to be enough?

I don't think there is a fascination with it, I think what we have is people waking up to find people they liked here suddenly just gone. And that leaves questions. It's fairly simple. And while some have said "if they were your friends, you'd have their contact info", I think that isn't entirely accurate.
And to that I would reply, they will be back if the offense wasn't too bad or the number of offenses wasn't too many. If not, then the rules were either too difficult to comprehend or the person simply didn't believe the consequences applied to them. In any event the frequency of banned topics has increased this year.

The ban process is exceedingly simple.
Break a rule, get yelled at.
Rinse & repeat until breaking a rule results in a ban.
In the case which brought on this discussion, that mug shot would be of Lemmy, the avatar used by the alleged offender at the time of the ban.
Would you really want to do that? I mean what did Lemmy ever do to you?
