I make noises when I play if I had a burrito for lunch.
Like @gin1955, I too thought this thread was about disgusting under leg noises.
Someone should have told Thelonius Monk to shut up...or Oscar Peterson...
i don't make noises when i'm playing, exactly, but at the end of every successful 8 bar phrase i do shout "next" as loud as i can. if the venue serves mexican beer i substitute "uno mas" for "next." so far: no one has complained.
I worked in multi-media for a while and had to record voice narration in a booth, then clean it up in Adobe Audition. If you want to hear crappy scary annoying stuff, just listen to a raw voice track with headphones!
I've been known to make rhythmic grunts while playing. My wife used to tease me about it when I would be recording bass using headphones. All she would hear were the grunts.
Plenty of people do it. My mom has some records of jazz pianist Erroll Garner. You can hear his grunting and unpitched singing on the recordings.

agreed: i've played with a lot of musicians who have spontaneous 'vocalizations' of one kind or another during performances --- even horn players!
Listen to any live Keith Jarrett recording; he makes noises loud enough that the piano mics pick him up. I think it's awesome.
I recently noticed myself occasionally making audible (to me) short intakes of air with my nose while playing some vigorous parts on upright (which is more "physical" while playing than when playing bass guitar). I'm conscious of trying to stop doing that.

Many years ago I played with a drummer (one of the best jazz drummers in the world now) who used to 'subvocalize' his entire performance while playing. A kind of "huyyyy-yyy-yy-yyy-yy--uu--uuuuu-uuu--uu-uu-uu-u-u--u-uu-uh" sound going non-stop the entire time. I haven't seen him in decades, but I bet he still does that 
I remember in high school ( played trombone ) there was a particular piece of music that had us ( t-bones ) playing a lot of up beat notes . People were making “ umm” noises in their throat before playing the “ bip “ notes on the instrument .
Didn't realize I was humming the bass lines until I started wearing ear plugs. That was an unexpected discovery.
I saw a video a few years ago of a dude demoing his new Fodera bass. His playing was great but he kept doing this weird tuneless humming while he played. Absolutely dreadful. I guess it's one of those "artistic" things or "feeling" the music.
