People who make noises when they play....

I have been told by a gf, that when I practice with headphones I hum or grunt. I'm sure that people that do it have no control over it.

I play with a great guitarist who vocalizes almost everything he plays. I try it practicing at home and somehow it really makes difficult bass lines and fills much easier to play.

I seem to breathe kind of noisily and to the rhythm which we noticed when recording, but its really hard not to breathe lol.... my piano player sometimes vocalizes what he's doing or hollers out a change like "YO!" bit it's never bugged me

I recently noticed myself occasionally making audible (to me) short intakes of air with my mouth while playing some vigorous parts on upright (which is more "physical" while playing than when playing bass guitar). I'm conscious of trying to stop doing that.

I used to jam with a guy who punctuated his playing with sharp, quick breaths through his teeth. He didn't know he was doing it.

I play with guys who will sing their solos when improvising. They'll do it quietly though...
I once walked into a club and the bass player was singing his solo so loudly that I thought it was a joke. lol It was so bad! lol

I do that all the time!
I yell at people during songs to take a solo, or to speed up, slow down, punches coming in 1-2-3-4, hit harder, hit softer, break it down, etc.
at this point I think it has become part of the show, since I don't really even say the words sometimes I just oommfffhhh, and uh uh uh uh , c'mon now!

I think it's just that some of us have our wires crossed up, so there is noise on the voice channel when the hands are doing musical things.

I worked briefly with a drummer who "moans". He makes a motion with his mouth as if he's chewing gum (and he is not chewimg gum) and just moans while playing.

Listen to the very beginning of this song for the exact sound I'm talking about. It was incredibly annoying.

I used to mountain bike with a guy like that. Anytime we had to stop and fix a mechanical, he did stuff like that. Also when we would work on our vehicles together. Yowza! He was a firefighter and I could imagine how well that went over in the fire hall.

Lady who works in the cube next to mine hums at just barely above the perceptible level. Sometimes I think I’m about to have a stroke but then I realize she’s humming. Thankfully her contract expires soon.

A lot of jazz players do this. I don't know if it's something that they're taught in school, maybe it's something that is taught as ear training? You hear a lot of jazz guitarists doing it, singing along with their solos.

Then there are the people who make odd sounds they don't realize they're making until someone tells them. That's a different thing from what I just described.

And then there are people who call changes or assign solos during a jam. I can't for the life of me figure out what the problem would be there. It's part of directing the stage action in an unrehearsed situation.

Weird, I do this, but not when playing music. I do it pretty much all the time. My girlfriend just says "teeth" out loud to me to get me to stop, because often I won't notice I'm doing it.
