I've heard that so many times now I can't even count. My email box is filled with it. Let me ask you a question.. Do you speak to your boss the same way? Your idea of a "douchy ad" would be not having any rules then. Think of it like a job. I write the music, record it, master it, etc.. (however bad whoever might think it is, at least it's something) and now I'm looking for LIVE players. It's that simple. Take for example someone like J. Newsted or Trujillo, if you can honestly tell me that a group like 'tallica didn't use those guys as their "Metallibot", then you've got a point, otherwise you do not. Keep in mind I'm in no way comparing myself to that group, but is it not the same analogically speaking? I have strict rules. So? That means I'm an arrogant a-hole then.. I see. Alright then, I guess that means anyone who would be a future member of my group would just get walked on whatever way.. Personal issues, women issues, weed smoking, walking around in the hallway with a cellphone when other member just want to get the job done and go home. That's the type of nonsense I had to deal with for years and I'm not trying to lay some type of trip either, but it's all true. I have never been very popular with people and seem to be a magnet for serious negativity, even despite years and years of intensely hard work as a musician. Truth is, I' have my own viewpoints or methods of doing things and it's usually non-standard, so if I don't do things the by the trendy cattle herd 'norm', people always seem to have sh*t conniptions. Yeah, I play every instrument, record everything and have worked privately with many musicians for years, but most were generally unwilling to cooperate. It's like they never wanted to do anything different, so I had to keep making up more rules. The usual type of responses I'd get from musicians who've came to my studio over the years are things like "I could never play that" or "I just counted 27 songs in one" and even more condescending comments like "I can't play this, it's too boring", which was a drummer who wanted to play drum fills, but I told him he couldn't, so he quit. I simply didn't want drum fills, hence "non-standard". I just wanted a drum beat and that's all, nothing fancy. He couldn't accept that though. So for that he went and spread rumors that I was nuts and an egotistical a-hole. That's just one example. I've dealt with that type of garbage for years, as well as being called every name in the book.. "tyrant", "mentally ill", "unstable", "arrogant", "dictator", "douche", you name it.. There's so many things I've been called I couldn't even list them all. I'd literally need a synonym finder. Truth is, the way I see it, most people are either just jealous because they smoke too much dope and can't get through more than 2 songs or they want to contrive some huge cluster f*ck. I don't want that. I simply try to write decent heavier and original sounding songs, record them and look for musicians to play the stuff. Unfortunately though, the musicians who I meet or come to my studio always want to change things, but that's impossible because the songs are already finished. So they get 'bored', take out their cellphone, wander around in the hallway smoking weed, talk to the friends, b*tches or whatever. It's like they don't want to get anything done or even actually understand basic logic. Ironically though, none of this is going to deter me from doing what I enjoy. I'll just keep looking, writing, recording and do what I do. If people don't like my music or rules, then F them. I'm not a bad person, I'm just convicted in my methods and ways because I don't trust most other people's bull. Period.
Can I ask you an honest question?
What is the salary you're offering to say... the drummer of your band, provided they meet all of your expectations?
I'm truly curious.

Holy crap dude. Ok, how much are you paying? You know why negativity follows you around? Because it sounds like you don't think other people are people. Is their compensation just supposed to be the sheer orgasmic thrill of playing the verbatim stuff you came up with for them, or since you used the word boss are you offering a salary/benefits? Your ad said they should be financially stable. So what is in it for anyone but you?

Your viewpoint is coming from a person who originates within a spoiled populace. I'm 100% positive there are musicians out there who would almost give their left nut to be in a Metal band that has some decent heavier music. If you don't like it though, that's your opinion. This isn't about money, contrary to popular belief.

what so they can play the one note 4/4 single handed bass lines for you for hours on end while sinking into utter boredom? Give it a rest man.... go on, get out..

As I said, people like you are spoiled on things such as complexity and you forget about the little things. I think it's time you give it a rest.

There are a plethera of bands that I would join "pro-bono" for the experience. This is definitely not one of them.
If I have to say something constructivem it would be that you're asking WAYY too much for no payoff.
When you mentioned something about "talking to your boss like that" I would definitely talk to someone who was as full of themselves as this CL post made you look, if I wasn't being paid to put up with it. No money paid means I have no boss.

Gigadude, seriously, did it ever occur to you that people have called you those names, because that is how you portray yourself?
Everyone is allowed to be their own person, but you make it seem like it's their fault.
Music is about camaraderie and expression.
If you expect people to only play exactly what you want them to play, no more, no less.. Then they better be well paid. Cuz if you take the enjoyment out of music, there needs to at least be a strong monetary reward.

No one wants to work with a dictator, you need to be more open to other ideas.
Or just stay in your studio and record your own tracks, no decent players are going to be open to your way of controlling everything. It's the exact opposite of what music is supposed to be... Freedom.

I understand wanting professionalism, but people actually need to comfortable and enjoy what their doing.

Sarcasm or not, that is NOT the way you've laid it out.

That's you and this isn't about you. Those are things that you think and that you would do, so we simply wouldn't get along anyways, which makes your statements utterly pointless to me. My email box is filled with people right now who've told me this type of group would be a "dream" gig for them. Meanwhile, you're still concerned about someone supposedly being "full of themselves". You don't even know me as a person, wise ass. You can't even logically say the things you're saying.. and if you're serious, then you're simply an egocentric jerk who only cares about what he thinks. I counted five "I" examples in your little paragraph to prove it. You're definitely egotistical, that much I know for certain. This isn't about YOU.

And yet, you know where my viewpoint comes from?

Show me what you've got. Post the links. I want to see some of the videos you've produced, some of the music you've recorded and all of the instruments you've played on them.
What do I get out of it? I don't care if you like my music/vids, but plenty do, hence the months of gigs. Your opinion means nothing. I have zero to gain by showing you my music. Enjoy your five minutes.
