PJ Club

My diy PJ with the P pickup in the right position. The base is a MIM Jazz Bass. You don't wan't to see under the pickguard how great I have been routing for the P pickup :)
It sounds great and the Dimarzio pickups work really well together. No weak bridge pickup.

Tort doesn't often do it for me but that one - elle est tres bonne!
I wasn't really into tort too but the guy offered me to make some photoshop combinations with pictures of my bass and, when I saw this combination I found it the nicer and more natural.
I thought 3 ply black/white/black would be nicer but it looked less gorgeous on the pictures.
Anyway, I'm very happy with the look and the tone of this bass. I was never totally happy with it when it was a Jazz Bass. Now I am !

This poor thing. After multiple modifications, electronics and pickup changes, I think I've finally got it just about where I want.

Started as a US Precision Deluxe. I'd posted about the defret and epoxy from HG Thor back when it happened, and years later the neck and fingerboard are still awesome, its hard to overstate just how much more playable it is with the great work he did.

The sound was never quite what I wanted, tried this and that set of pickups and a mountain strings.

I got directed to a local luthier from my usual setup guy for a jazz bass and liked his work and the pickups he did, so once funds allowed I asked him to do a p/j set for me. Finally decided on getting a simplified control scheme (vol/vol/tone), and a new pickguard to get rid of unused openings. Since I never used the preamp I just pulled it before dropping it off.

I'm blown away. It finally sounds the way I want. I've waffled over keeping it, and now I'm really glad it's still with me. Everything full up sounds awesome, but I'm going to have to make myself see what else it can do.

Now I just have to figure out what I'm going to do for those knobs.

Great to hear a happy ending story. I feel some instruments just require more time and patience to bring them into focus - most people flip rather than experiment. I've been in a similar place where you know 'that sound' is possible, and worth trying to achieve. It's always a risk because sometimes it just never seems to pan out. Enjoy playing yours whichever knobs you choose! :bassist:

Black on black on maple... that looks so hot!

I'd just go with black metal knobs and keep the stealth body happening.

I second the "black knobs" suggestion. If it were mine, I'd probably go a couple of steps further. Specifically, I'd set it up with a black bridge with brass saddles I have waiting for a home, then I'd dress it up with some vinyl, black-pearloid blocks courtesy of Jockomo.
