Please explain the origin of your user name

Nothing exciting for mine. When I signed up for TB, I used my email ID - less to remember (and yes, you can email me at [email protected] if you really really want to). Didn't occur to me that TB would become part of my daily routine and I should think of some clever musical ID for it.

At the time I signed up for the yahoo account, I was working on my dissertation, and Hrodbert was how my medieval Latin sources spelled the name of St. Rupert of Salzburg, who is fairly prominent in my work (along with Ruppert and Hruodperht and other variations). He arrived at Salzburg in 696 AD, so... since I didn't want to use my own name/birthday/whatever in my email address, I went with ole Rupe and the year his career hits the history books. Hrodbert696.

This has been asked before. Rust Preacher comes from my nick at the original "Rust List", the mailing list for Neil Young fans in the early days of the Interwebby. The mailing list was hosted by user "Satan" on a server called "death.sun.com" if my memory serves me right.

"I feel pretty..oh so pretty! I feel pretty and witty and gay!!" LOL mine is from the movie Anger Management. My son is a pretty reactive little guy..one day he was pitching a fit about something and I chanted Goosfraba and he grinned..then I started singing that song and told him "sing along, you know the words" so we sang it and laughed til he forgot what he was even angry about. I thought it made for a pretty decent username. :) Taking up bass at age 48...i definitely need to guard against frustration and anger. LOL Trying to keep it fun.

Mine has been a nickname I've had for years in various bands. White dude that plays bass, I guess it made sense to the people I was playing with lol. I've had others though...Android (name is Andrew and I work hard like a machine) and Plucky (drummer gave me that based on my style and pugnacious attitude). Vanilla Thundah is still my favorite though :)

The spell for darkness from the early 90s game Dungeon Master. The runes in the game are Des Ir Sar. I needed a character name in 1994 for a MUD that enforced a fairly strict naming policy of names that suit your race and are not already in use for character names in books or games. When the character reached the level at which you can select a surname, I picked up the game manual again and chose the spell for lightning, Oh Kath Ra. The first name nor the full name Desirsar Ohkathra is used anywhere else, by anyone else, and I've used it pretty much everywhere since, so all the Google hits for it are me. (And that includes a still active fan forum for the Dungeon Master game series. I was amazed it wasn't taken.)

Mine has no connection to music.

I used to be a history nut. Still am in a way, but i was HUGELY that back then. The Queens Own Rifles of Canada (QORC) is the longest continuously serving regiment in the Canadian army and was a first way unit on D-day. So I adopted it as a moniker early in the life of the Internet (I grabbed it on Yahoo mail in 1996 and have never given it up). So it's easy to remember and unique. it's never taken as a log-in name anywhere.
