Poll: Led Zeppelin vs. Rush?

Rash was definitely ahead of its time. OK, I'm not certain they ever did, or ever will actually have a time, but if they ever do, they were ahead of it.

I like Rush and Peart is a personal favorite. Not trying to be kicked off TB for saying that.

Overall I like the “bluesy” coppings of Zep.

Both bands have legendary bass and drums and I think both bands have songs that drive me nuts too. I like them both and would not say one is better but the first half of Led Zep’s portfolio is hard for me to put down.

I like Page’s playing more than Lifeson but Lifeson is no slouch. Just a style preference.

If I’m in high school with my girlfriend in the car I’m playing Zep for sure.
If I’m practicing/playing at home along with streams advantage Rush.

Ahhh, to be a teenager again. I used to love these totally pointless debates. Ours was typically "who started metal, Zep or Sabbath?"

What a ridiculous debate, everyone knows it was Iron Butterfly.

I voted for Led Zeppelin, who I generally like very much. I've tried to get into Rush multiple times, but it's only made me like them less.

I grew up in that era and I can't name one Rush song. Not one. They just never interested me. They still don't. On the other hand, I could name plenty of Zep songs. So you know how I voted.

Led Zeppelin is one of those bands that I know I'm supposed to like, and I've tried, but they just don't do it for me. I recognize them as innovators that led to a lot of music that I do like, and I certainly recognize the talent in the band. But honestly, if I'm listening to a classic rock radio station and LZ comes on, I'll turn the channel.

That said, if I'm listening to a classic rock radio station and Rush comes on, I'll crank it!

Both good bands (in recordings anyway. Never saw either live). If I were forced to listen to either band's music for an entire month to the exclusion of all other music, I'd go with Zep.

^ yep. LZ changed the face of rock music. I've been a fan since I first heard them in 1969 when I was 8. One of my two favorite bands. JPJ is highly underrated.

Rush were very talented and nice guys, but I can only listen to them in small increments . . . Then there's the whole birth control argument.

I voted for Zep, almost purely on the basis of Black Dog and Rock And Roll.
Don't care much for the rest of their output, and even less for Rush's.

Caveat: I don't listen to or play rock anymore, but I did to the point of ennui until about 15 years ago.

Grew up around Zep, back in their heyday. Rush didn't get much airplay where/when I grew up, and I didn't discover them until college, so they are not part of my "formative years" like LZ is.

That said, from the standpoint of listening to bass playing, I like what Geddy has done, but to me JPJ sort of brings a more well-rounded listening experience.

That's just me.

I didn't appreciate Rush until recently. So, Led Zeppelin has a 40 year head start. But I fundamentally reject the premise - Rush vs Led Zeppelin is like steak versus lobster. The world is better with both of them in it.

Rush is the lobster. You're supposed to like it but you have to slather it in butter just to make it edible. The LZ steak stands just fine on its own.

Led Zeppelin is by far more beloved and appreciated. Although I think that Rush is consider a better band in terms of musicianship, all 3 of them are shred in what they do. Zeppellin not so much.

Back then I thought that they were both a bit too tedious for me. Now both technically inspire, how they came up with all that amazing stuff at such a young age I'll never know, but I'm still not a huge fan of either, truth be told.
