With all this talk about scale accuracy and calibration, I’m afraid I’m going to have to change hats and side with the sellers for a minute. I think someone is entitled to know whether a bass is 8 pounds vs 13 pounds... but if a scale can’t tell the difference between 1/8 of a pound, I’m pretty sure you’re back won’t either! At that point it starts to get a little ridiculous in my opinion.

So, I read through most of this thread and did not find a single reference to HOW DOES IT SOUND??
First it was how heavy is the amp? Now it's how heavy is the guitar? Next, how heavy is the strap?
How about how does the guitar or amp SOUND? Or doesn't that matter anymore??

Provided questions and/or comments aren't offensive, which is quite subjective nowadays (people is getting more and more sensitive) ... there's currently a beat-up black jazz bass in the Classifieds which is said to be from 1978 but it may also be from 1981/82 (fretboard is provided with dots instead of inlays) which is sold for 3000 USD .. the bass has got a lot of parts which are not original ... I looked at it and I liked the body as it is in a natural (?) heavy relic condition but how you can sell a bass which is not so vintage, which, if it is vintage, is not from the best vintage period (unanimous opinion) and which is lacking very important original parts for a price like that? I made my comment, which, of course, the OP didn't like (although he didn't reply) stating politely that the bass seemed a little overpriced to me ... definitely I'm not interested in buying it but I believe I was entitled to highlight a situation which seems to be out of what it should ... what is my position then? Was my attitude offensive or detrimental to the seller? ...

No .. I made a very short and polite comment .. i probably should have PM'd him although I thought somebody could be misled by his post .. hence I'm surely somebody who posted an unsolicited reply to the eyes of the OP, although, at least in my opinion, the origin of the comment is licit looking at the description of the bass in question ...

Most guitars will sound fine anyways. It's pretty hard to find a really dead guitar that sounds terrible in all contexts. A P bass is going to sound like a P bass. However, if you're going to gig, and have to stand while doing that, guitar weight is literally more important than the sound because bad sound won't destroy your back and shoulders. I've developed scoliosis because I gigged a really heavy guitar for a very long time. Since I already have early onset osteoarthritis at the ripe age of 25, I couldn't give less of a sh!t about the sound of a guitar if it weighted 15lbs.

This is often legitimate IME. Many times folks will post "No Shipping", but fail to drum up local interest and end up being willing to ship.
From what I've read over the years, this is far, far from the norm. Are you saying if you buy an MIA Fender Professional Jazz with a maple board, you could take it to GC a couple years later in excellent condition and get $900 (60% of $1500)?
That's about twice the TOP end of GC's range, according to pretty much everyone else who has ever sold gear to GC or most other stores. And that's understandable, IMO--stores have to hang the gear, maintain it, keep the lights on, etc.

First, when the question is asked, you have no idea whether the member intends to buy or not. Secondly, weight is important to some. Sweetwater thinks it is important enough that they list the weight on each bass. So, if you are annoyed by questions, then yes, put all the info you have in the original listing. It will not, of course, eliminate stupid questions, but it just might saving you from having to actually deal with another human being.
I’d normally agree with this 100%, BUT, Guitar Center just gave WAAAAY more than I expected in trade for a guitar and reverb pedal. I was able to leave with a giggable bass rig and cash in my pocket. Not sure if the salesman was bad at math, or if there were other factors that I’m unaware of, but I did better off than I would have selling online and shipping.

I believe it's against the rules to call out someone on price. Or used to be, at least.
