I'll see an ad in the TB classifieds for a factory-made bass cab for sale, and then I'll see someone else in the thread ask "what are the cab dimensions" or "how much does the cab weigh".

My first thought when I see that is, "google is your friend!" :thumbsup:

Hum...I can't agree with this one as "weight" is a part of the ergonomics and can be an important consideration for some players, especially with back issues.
Ergonomics come first for me when considering a bass. Tone and aesthetics follow.
If it's not comfortable to play, I'll just wind-up not playing it.
I Have to admit I do have some "wall art" basses though! :rolleyes:

Nobody is disputing weight being an important consideration - this is about the %90 of posters who pop up and say "Weight?" with absolutely no intention of buying, as you can see by the polling this bothers a lot of people.

If the seller didn't post the weight for whatever reason and you actually want to buy it - PM them.

I have had people ask me the dimensions of a standard Jazz bass pickup. What’s annoying is that anyone with the reasonable expectation of spending $1,000 on an instrument would 1) already be familiar with this and 2) should be capable enough to find that answer on their own. The person asking the ridiculous question wants you to waste your time for their casual curiosity. It’s as absurd as going into a car dealership, spending an hour with the salesperson, taking that V8 Mustang for a test drive and then saying “what size tires are on the car? Oh, that doesn’t work for me.” And then walk out the door.

Isn't that bit of a contradiction, if weight is "an important consideration" why not post it in the ad? Just like posting the number of strings, which TB finally made a spot for in the ad's title posting. It saves time and people posting "Weight"? "who don't actually want to buy it?" Yes, you always can PM them if you're serious but, it can save everyone the necessity.
The better the description, the better the prospect for a prompt offer/sale, IMO.
But I see your prospective as well, it's how deep you're wanting to look at it.

I'd assume it's because most folks only have bathroom scales sitting around their houses and don't want to go get a luggage/postal scale to cater to tire kickers who act like a few ounces is a big deal - again, when they have no intention of buying. I've bought dozens of basses on this site and have never cared what the weight is - however, if something that is of concern isn't listed in the ad and I am actually interested in purchasing - I'll message the seller and ask them. Pretty simple. Go back and read what this thread is actually about - it's not about WEIGHT BEING AN IMPORTANT FACTOR OR NOT.

Most irritating has to be when you already list a reasonable and fair price and someone asks if you would take less and then proceeds to offer up a (very) low ball offer.

Another is when you specify you're looking to sell and people ask if you'd trade.

Correct Oz. I once provided a bath scale weight that was not good enough for a potential buyer. I ended up taking the bass to Fedex, using their scale, and taking a picture of the weight. It was 9.425, or something like that. The potential buyer said their limit was 9.4, and that .025 put it over the limit, lol. So the best I can do in the future will be the bath scale.

I know you said No Trades, but how about my odd ball seven string fretless that I’ve been trying to unload for the past year?

Oh man, I guarantee if you said 9.310 lbs they would have said "oh shoot, I can only do 9.3 sorry!"

"I know you said you're only interested in 4 string fretted basses but I've got this cool one of a kind Hungarian 7 string fretless loaded with EMG's. Was wondering if you'd be interested in a trade (With cash on your end of course)"
