Not really. If you have both PG's and they are a simple unscrew/screw swap to change one for the other, use one for a while then use the other for a while before deciding. You may wind up swapping them out from time to time just to keep from getting bored with the same look. It's an option available to you as long as you have both PG's so why sweat it so much?

If you were looking to sell and wanted the best bait for the "too poor to buy vintage but desperately wanting to do so" crowd, it might be a tough choice in terms of maximizing your return on the sale, but since it's yours and you are the only one who must be pleased by it have fun with it and don't turn it into an excuse to raise your blood pressure over a decision that only you and a handful of overly anal retentive fellow bassers really give a $&!+ about.

Not really sweating, blood pressure normal.

Just a harmless diversion. I don't really want to rotate my pickguards. Once it's on, I'll live with it just fine.

Agree with the gold only looking "right" with the old tobacco-style 2-tone sunbursts. That was a relatively specific (short) time that the gold was offered, so it looks anachronistic to me on anything OTHER than a vintage or vintage RI P-bass.

Yep, sorry folks, this is for those who understand where I'm coming from. I know there are lots of other choices, some quite nice, but these are my preferences for a sunburst body.

I tried the normal tort from WD Music. It has a distinct reddish hue. They also offer a "red tort," and it is obviously red.

The normal tort from WD was too red for my tastes. That brown guard in the OP is more my style in torts.

Well, I'll say this much...

This thread motivated me to undertake the precarious unshrinking of an original 1972 tortoiseshell Precision pickguard (from my original Precision of that year) so I could put in on my new Highway One sunburst.

It worked out OK. Looks a'ight. I'm trying to get a '72 look on this, as that's what the graphics are -- and you don't geat a more authentic pickguard for that look...though it's a little red.

i dye the Fender '62 American Vintage Re-Issue tort guards to make them more red. the red dye eats into the nitrate and turns it a white-ish red when it dries, so i have to re-buff the guard back to a high gloss and bring the color back. it gives them a more reddish-burgundy look, like the late 60's ones.
