Thanks. Homebrew makes fantastic pedals. The Psilocybe phaser sounds excellent on bass and yes, it is capable of the funky "wah woh eee" sound. It has 2 toggle switches, one is kind of like a low end cut and the other changes the sweep of the phase. This phaser is mild compared to others, it helps to have a little overdrive before it if you want a more pronounced phase sound. Since I didn't want a crazy phase effect, this fits me perfectly. It sounds AWESOME for slapping and adding texture to clean tones.

The Hematoma overdrive has an overall "dark" sound to it but still pretty versatile. Perfect for playing black sabbath-esque tones to give you an idea. I'm constantly A/Bing it with my fulltone. The fulltone is capable of doing VERY subtle overdrive while the hematoma, even on the lowest gain, is not as subtle. I'm not sure if I can recommend one over the other just yet, I'm still experimenting.

The Big D is without a doubt one of the most versatile overdrive, distortions I've tried and I have it on my board for this very reason. I have it set to a slight overdrive when I turn it on, and a screaming distortion with the boost switch. On certain diode settings it is capable of fuzz, but not the type that a dedicated fuzz pedal will give you. It retains the low end just as good as the hematoma. wonderful pedal.

wow, thanks for the info they sound like very nice pedals, have you thought about getting one of there delays instead of your DD6?

Oh sure, now you're selling me on the Bass-drive as well. ;)

I completely agree about the dark sound of the Hematoma. In fact just looking at the pedal gives you a pretty good idea of what it sounds like, black with a shade of purple. Does that make sense?

So i got MY hematoma today and I have to say I'm more than impressed with it. To my ears (after A/B-ing my warwick thumb strung w/ flats and my spector legend w/ rounds) it sounds much better with the flatwound strings...really helps to bring out the darkness inherent in the pedal...i have only had a chance to play it through a small crate 15 watt practice amp though, and i have a feeling thats why i didn't like it as much with the roundwounds (the brightness really works the speaker on it)...I am supposed to have a gig this friday where i'd be using the spector and a GK backline 210 with my hematoma and a digitech bass compressor...I'll report back with my findings...and i guess i'll post the pedalboard that this one is on seeing as this is the approproate thread- not my main board (not my main band)

Spector Legend 4 -> Boss TU-2 -> Digitech XBS -> HBE Hematoma -> mxr bass blow torch (when its available) ->GK backline 210

simple, but effective

I absolutely Love it! I have wanted one for a very long time. A couple of stores that I normally buy from, never had one in stock and it would take forever to get one from Ampeg. I checked Ebay everyday and only found one, and couldn't bid on it because I was out of town. A friend of mine, out of the blue, called me and said he was selling his!
The tone is awesome, very full and smooth, and if you dig in a little you get some grit out of the tube. I used to play thru a U5, which is very nice, but a little to pristine for me. It also has some great controls like:
tube/direct out (which I always have it on tube) and
tube/direct thru. (which I keep on direct, because I play thru a Boogie 400+ tube head)

If you ever get one, change out the stock tube and put in a nicer one in and you will be good to go.:bassist:

I had the Q-Tron modified to have an output level and an extra LED for when the effect is on. I was finding that the volume was always blasting when I turned the effect on regardless of what setting I had it at. The other LED is for "overload" so I wanted one just to show when the unit is on. Because I loop it through the Bassbone, I can turn effects on and off and then just trigger it all at one click of the Bassbone so I need to have a visual of what's on and off.
