I ended up selling mine.
I love ghs flats after a handful of months. But hate breaking them in.

Interesting. My ongoing experience is quite different. I say ongoing, as I bought my M3050 set (045-105, for my Midtown) a couple of weeks ago. What is similar is that they are definitely taking some time to break in.
For me, though, the D and G strings sounded great from the start, and the E and A strings had quite a bit of growl and grind. This surprised me, as I was expecting the opposite. Some posters here on TB reassured me that they had similar results and I should just be patient.
Now, two weeks later, the E and A are settling in very nicely, and the strings' tones are balancing very well. Last night I was able (for the first time) to get the muddy tone in the low register, with the neck pickup, that I was hoping for.
At this point, I certainly love the trend...
Also, the strings out of the package were quite silky feeling.
Maybe the different sets are made differently? Maybe it depends on who is doing the winding?
Regardless, patience is certainly the key.
Amazing strings. I've tried quite a few brands of flats, but I keep coming right back to GHS. All my basses except my Hofner wear GHS Precision Flats.
Please pass my appreciation on to the two talented individuals who craft these strings...their work is stellar. Nothing short of an art form, IMHO.![]()
Mine are anything but tingy/twangy. Lots of thump and very smooth. Almost past the sticky feel, but other than that, mine are sounding great. I wouldn't use these flats for all genres, but for the country band I am in, they are perfect!
I keep hearing people rave over these but i ordered a set of custom ghs flats from jason and found them to be unbalanced sound wise and rough feeling with alot of tingy/twang.
Am i missing something?
oops, just noticed you said Custom Flats. Mine are Precision Flats. The D and G were big time.
E was already thuddy and A sounded great.

I know ghs are smooth as ive played older sets before but mine were a little rough feeling. Maybe i confused with stickiness.
You would probably be best suited with our Light gauge set (45-60-75-95).
