Praise Report: GHS Precision Flats

Wait, what the, Linnin?

Please tell me this is in jest.
Oh no it's all very real. Every time I go to my veteran's clinic for a check up they keep finding a new incurable disease. The mystery is why I'm still alive. The good news is that I have a factory fresh set CM3050 GHS Precision Flats to put on my Fender American Professional Precision. Heaven can wait. ;)

I really like the CM Set!

PSA: GHS website is selling strings for 30% off for Black Friday.

That's right folks, a GHS Precision Flatwound CM3050 set is now installed on my Fender American Professional Precision electric bass guitar. Gone are the year old 4M-BN set of GHS Balanced Nickels. The switch turned out to be easier than I thought. So far no changes in setup are required. Intonation is good as is neck relief. I'll play these new flats in for a good week before making any tweaks. The CM3050 are 174.1 pounds of tension vs 184.2 pounds for 4M-NB set, so I don't expect to make any big changes at all. Maybe none. String-to-string tone is very good, but the volume isn't as close as the Balanced Nickels. Perhaps a pickup tweak later, but not until a month or so of break in. Love the hard punchy percussive attack; definition, and articulation/clarity of the Precision Flats. Color me happy! :)

Quickie half hour practice session this morning. Limbered up strings and retuned. They sound better after being under tension for 16 hours. Good to see those familiar deep purple silks on my headstock. This bass has never been strung in flats before, and has had two sets of 4M-NB Balanced Nickels back-to-back over the past two years. These Precision Flats will be the last set of strings I put on this bass. I always clean my strings before installing, and I get almost no manufacturing residue whatsoever off GHS strings. The world class quality and attention to detail is impressive.

It’s hard to beat the sound of a pick plucking on those P Flats. I have them on my J and I always enjoy hearing that “clicky” thud

When I tore my left rotator cuff 10 years ago I still wanted to play, but needed to cut the weight. I bought a Traveler Mk2 and wasn’t thrilled. I took it to the local GC where I bought it from and the counter guy sold me the GHS M3050s. They turned darkness into light. Since I only play left handed the strings need to carry the tone and they sing beautifully. When I got my Squier CV 60s fretless a few months ago they got the same strings with the same result. I damn near had a stroke when GHS changed the color of the packaging but no worries, same great tone.
Glad I’m in good company!

Jake
