Anyone use the GHS PF on a medium or short scale? Is it even possible?

They are very different strings , and I have used both on different basses. I just love the Precision flats so much , and while they're different than Thomastiks, they may be the best flat-wound strings ever devised.....Only one thing to do... Try them both. I've never used Thomastik. Lots of people like them. After using the P Flats though, I think I'm all set![]()

I am really curious to hear how the Precision Flats sound on a Jazz Bass. Right now I am debating between getting a set for a Squier Affinity J bass that I found for $120 Canadian that has a beautiful neck and absolutely sounds great stock, but it's probably going to either be a set of Thomastik Jazz flats or the Precision's. Not sure yet what to do....![]()
GHS since 1964. They know a thing or two about winding strings. Especially flatwound bass strings.even from string to string and have more or less that classic sound that we all want to hear. Although there is more tension on the strings, it is bearable. After trying 4 or 5 sets of flatwounds, I have to say GHS has really nailed the flatwound sound with these.
I do a lot of recording sessions and I absolutely love the tone I get with the 3025 set. Have you guys ever considered making the same set with a .100 "E" instead of .95? I sometimes find it difficult to keep the E in tune for a long time because of the low tension. The .105 has too much tension for me so I want something in between. Thanks!
Honestly no. You're probably one of a handful of requests like this I've gotten over the years I've been here. We have a FB100 available as a single, so if you like, you can put your set together with singles from any of our dealers that carry them.
That sure sounds like the string was twisted when installed. The pitch warbles erratically and will never quite intonate.I did a few pitch tests yesterday with my tuner. Even with a perfectly intonated bass, the pitch on the E string was quite random going up and down whether I played an open string or up the neck. I had noticed that when tracking.
Possible, although after 35 yrs of playing I am extremely carful not to twist the strings when I install them, it may happen. My PBass is string-through but I always mount through the bridge instead for this reason. That sure sounds like the string was twisted when installed. I've been playing for 50 years and always string through the bridge, and yet every once in a while I will still end up with a #%*&*! twisted string. I also loathe light strings. Has no bearing on your condition. I just hate 'em. Carry On.Possible, although after 35 yrs of playing I am extremely carful not to twist the strings when I install them, it may happen. I took off a set of TI Flats and put on the Precision Flats. I liked the TI Flats for the lower tension and the EA strings sounded great, but the DG strings sounded very differently and I lost patience waiting for them to age into the classic TI sound.
I had some TI's for awhile and did not think they aged well. They never really became thumpy, they just became dull and mid-rangey. In other hand The LaBella Fl760s age very nicely and the GHS Precision never seem to change once they settle after a month and sound perfect forever.
They sure put the Joy in Bass!I am pretty happy with GHS strings so far!
I sure hope you folks are right!![]()
Oh, no, I'm holding this thread responsible. :-DWe folks are always right.
Whether these strings are right for your bass or not, that's something you'll have to decided for yourself.![]()
