I guess I’m an oddball. I learned to practice like I play. Since my intent was to play on a stage, back then, I have always practiced standing up, and moving about. I still do it this way all these years later and I haven’t played in front of folks in over ten years. I could swear I read that advice from some cat named Jaco. Not sure though if I’m honest.

I have that. Paid less than 1/3 of that 10ish years ago. It's heavy, awkward, difficult to transport; but very comfortable and adjustable. If I had roadies...

This interests me. Is the guitar hanger on the back high enough for a full scale bass?

Here's my gig rig (when needed. Recently, I've been using a Rumble 100 and a Hercules half stand. Same stool, though )

RE OP: At home I use a desk chair with fold-up arms.

+1 for Roc-N-Soc, and the addon back rest is very useful.

While this is a very nice throne, I personally found it uncomfortable due to an old hip/leg injury. Maybe the standard round shape would’ve worked better for me. I’ve since moved on to a padded office chair without arms, but still searching for something better.

I have a couple different things. I have a few heavy duty (but unpadded) shop stools I picked up from some guy selling old ones. I also have a couple nice padded bar stools a relative was getting rid of. I tend to use those now. Best bang for the buck is probably a padded swivel shop stool with a back. You can get them from Lowes/Home Depot/Harbor Freight/etc for around 70 bucks.

So crazy question; what does every body like to sit on when they practice? I’m looking for something better than the metal folding chair I use now.

I was considering a drumming throne; comfortable and nothing to accidentally bang the instrument on (like a folding chair).

Any suggestions?

I've got a round, backless stool from Ikea that is pretty comfy. That said, I'd like it even better if it had a backrest. I think a drum throne would probably be great.

I have the Quik-Lok at my practice space but splurged for a K&M stool at home. Pandemic pricing has made them even more expensive but I really like it.

band practice: I sit on a 2x10 mesa boogie cab I no longer use.

at home I sit on a well-leveled sofa bed as I found it worked best for the classical position with my 35'' scale

I like the piano bench best, but too often I am using an armless, rolling computer chair which is less stable.

I am +10ing the whole Drum Throne idea. If you get a quality one, your arse will thank you.

If you are looking to save a bit I would suggest a Gibraltar Pro Oversized Motorcycle Throne.

I have found (given my enormous girth) that a non-gas throne works better for me. This is one of the many advantages of the Gibraltar in my opinion. In addition, the seat plate that is used to attach the seat to the legs is very large, making for better overall weight distribution and amazing stability.

I use my nice, comfy office chair with a very upright back. It has arms but I was able swap the sides which makes the arms back a little so they don’t interfere with an instrument.

I’ve wanted a Rock-N-Soc for a long time. Maybe some day.
