I use one of these when I play upright. It lets me sit, but in an almost standing position. I'm not playing upright much these days, but I might continue to use it with electric, as it takes a lot of stress off my knees.

Made this armless rocker years ago from a regular rocker. Used parts of the arms to make angle supports for the back. Cut the runners front and back for space saving.
Over the years, I've discovered standing rather than sitting is better for me. So I built a multi-purpose standing desk that I continually modify to better fit my workflow:
Occasionally sitting is nice, so until I get around to building something better, I use this from Rigid:

Step 1. Get a Roc-N-Soc Nitro with original seat. It even comes in colors!

(Unless you don't want that tiny bit of office-chair bounce from the gas strut: then get a regular one. But since you're playing bass, not drums, the convenience and comfort from the gas strut probably wins.)
I actually bought myself one of these for Christmas a couple years ago (based on reviews here and on Instagram) and used it on a theater gig I had. Also tried it out in my office as a desk chair, both with and without the back support/rest. Couldn't last two hours on it without pain.
My partner now owns it. She can practice fiddle on it for a half a day with zero issues.

FWIW: I'm 6" and about 230 lbs with a fairly average shape. It was my tailbone that didn't care for it. It was better when I had one foot raised, but not a heck of a lot.
I removed the arms from my computer/office desk chair for home practice. I stand when performing on stage.
An extremely comfortable high end office chair I found at Goodwill for a mere $15. Absolutely love it.
When I'm just practising bass I sit on a wheeled office chair that has no armrests..... very comfortable and I can move around easily.
When I'm playing with the band I used to sit on the Woodskin (below) which is a cajon with kick and snare pedals.
Around 6 months or so ago I went digital and now sit on a relatively cheap piano seat (with material skirt to hide cabling, DI box, power etc)

I was just pondering the same thing, more or less, and was leaning toward a drum throne. Seems to be the most popular.
I don’t know the technical name. But my practice seat always has a roll of toilet paper on the wall next to it. It’s also got this cool flush/phasing effect.
Right leg goes to sleep due to bass (and seriously bony legs) when I sit, so it's standing mostly. I've found I can sit on the couch and really slump backwards and keep the leg awake. Then the plucking wrist is so out of position, it's either picking or thumbing everything. Jealous of all of you that can sit.
