I've got a comfortable computer/office work chair with no arms in my studio/practice space. Works great. Adjustable height and back. I think it's important to have a back rest if you're going to spend any time in the chair ... which I end up doing when learning new material or doing tracks.
I almost always gig standing up, or if I do sit (rare) I just use a stool from the venue
