I haven't hit every corner of the state, but I'd say that the San Antonio seems to have that in common with the Austin area, although with a different cultural flair. This next statement will hack a few off but, while living in Texas, I found the stereotypical "southern hospitality" lacking more often than not.

I noticed it immediately on a visit to Pascagoula, Mississippi and it's one of the main reasons we chose our current location (Northshore, Louisiana) over Dallas when my wife was offered two jobs simultaneously.

At this point, I'm gonna take my mother's advice with respect to the rest and just say that Austin and San Antonio are nice areas that I'd consider moving to.

The SA area scares the sheet outta me. Too many people for the friggin Interstate infrastructure. My maternal parent lives in Cibolo.

SA and Houston are both nuts :eek: My maternal parent is from Houston.

I left Charleston before I was 6 months old, sorry, can't pin that one on me! :spit:

I moved to NOLA at the age of 6 years, having lived in Scotland, Spain, and north FL in the time between, and remembering all of those places fairly well (I'm odd, I can remember in great detail back to the age of approximately 2 years old).

I consider myself to be FROM Louisiana, because from 6 to 21 that is where I lived.

I've lived in NC all my life. There are some things I love about the South, some things I don't. Winter's not bad, spring and fall are really nice but the summers are a bitch. I wouldn't mind the heat so much, but the humidity kills me. I will forever love fried chicken, biscuits, and sweet tea. I'm really not a fan of rednecks or ignorant white trash though, a lot of the "culture" of the South is totally lost on me.
