Replacing Wyman was one thing but replacing this most tasteful drummer is something else. Charlie was my favorite Stone. That little break in Start me up gets me every time. Bless you and Thank you!

I regret not buying Jamming With Edward when I saw it in the cut out bin for $1.99.

It was released at a bargain price, I seem to recall it was only $1.99. I have no idea why they bothered to put it out.

Damn sad news. I always had a ton of respect for Charlie.

In my last working band, I had a young hotshot prog rock drummer who would go off on all kinds of fancy fills and basically fill up all of the available space in a song.
I would always plead with him to do “more Charlie Watts, and less mayhem please”.

Another sad day indeed. Keef has to be gutted.

Still available on CD/LP, just look on Ebay.
Why shouldn’t they have put it out? It wasn’t at full price, and it showcased Ry Cooder and Nicky ‘Edward’ Hopkins, who did a lot of heavy lifting on many a Stones tune. Just something a little different for the hardcore fans.

as my first several years of musical experience and listening was in the context of being a drummer, this one hurts. he’s the first one of the rolling stones to pass… wow. i’m young, so i don’t have the experience of being young while these guys were also quite young, but it really does hurt to know that an era of some kind is coming to an end more and more year by year… RIP charlie.

What I think is one of his greatest performances; perfect album closer, his classic tom fills, and that high speed shuffle at the end. This is how you go beyond just keeping a beat, and adorning a song without having to be all Neil Peart about it…

A good drummer is the only way that we, as bassists, can make our art happen. Drummers like Charlie, and Ringo, had impeccable if not even perfect time and groove, and that wasn't the standard of the day as it is now. They were part of the generation that set that standard.
He will be missed, but he leaves a legacy.

R.I.P. to THE Rolling Stone. Ever since I was a kid, he was one of my main musical heroes, and easily my favorite drummer, after the '60s studio greats. This loss hurts really badly – like no other celebrity loss I have ever experienced.

Nice sentiment, Keef, but I'm guessing you're not going to cancel your current tour.

I get the "show must go on" attitude, but now that the entire rhythm section has passed on to the next plane, at what point do the Stones become the Ship of Theseus?

Both Mick and Keith have sad that when Charley leaves the Stones are done. They won't continue as a duo. We'll see.

PS. I know they are touring now with a sub.
