RARE Fender club

I sold this one but here is an extremely rare 1969 Fender Mustang bass with both the competition stripe (first year for stripe) and the matching headstock (last year for matching headstock.) That means it can only be a 1969... plus I think red was a rarer color (correct me if I am wrong.)

LOLOLOLOL! A six-string, neck-through, soapbar-equipped, exotic wood Fender! I bet the guys at Fender Custom Shop were puzzled at having to build that one.

Obviously, he could have gone to one of several luthiers to have this instrument built, but instead chose the one company that is known for the absolute antithesis of this beautiful bass. And he knew what he was doing when he placed the order, I'll bet. :D

From what I learned from another member on this board when I posted a thread about it, they ran from 1988 to 1995?. They have active EQ and are a cross between the Pbass and the Jazz.

I initially started out looking for a Fender Performer but ran across this instead. Fender Precision 'Special' and from what I've learned the ones that came with no pickguard are called Precision Plus. Don't quote me on that as I'm still learning about them

That is a very cool lookin' Fender, Starscream, for an awesome price. I expect a full report after you get it!

I've got a 1990 US JP-90, all original, non-cracked pickguard even... They're kinda rare, does that count?

Here is my '89-'90 Fender HM4 bass. It has 3 jazz pickups with a five way switch. The neck is one of the best I've ever played, super fast and it has a killer sound. It's really light too. I believe it was the predecessor of the P-Lyte model. One of my favorites for sure.

Thanks ^_^ I wanted my Fender to stand out in some way. I don't think I did too bad. :p And there will definitely be a full report when I get it. Its my first Fender :hyper:

I fortunant enough to get to try out a Fender Custom shop bass made like "The Oar". (Summer NAMM 2003) The headstock was hugh on that bass. They did have a fretless 6 string hanging up also. I have pictures of these basses, but no scanner to scan the prints with.

I wasn't that impressed by these basses. They looked fancy, but they just didn't feel or play like a sixer, built by a company that builds sixers regularly - MTD, Ken Smith, Yamaha, Ibanez, etc.

The price on the bass like "The Oar" - $8500.00 Retail. No thanks I'll go someplace else.

Interesting piece by Fender though.

When last seen, that bass was in residence at the Scottsdale AZ GC (which is not a half bad store BTW). They normally have it in a glass case, but periodically get it out and a person can play it.

Price is right around $5k.

It is not neck through, and actually has a fairly substantial heel block.

Not too heavy; IIRC right around 9+ lbs.

Plays pretty well and sounds great.

(But, then, I haven't been in there in 6+ months; so, maybe someone scooped it)

Edit: In fact, looking at the pic again, I think that may have been shot in that store.

You are 100% correct about the pic being taken from the store. Good eye. I used to live in Arizona and I go back to see my family and visited that store. I also used to work for Guitar Center here in Fairfax. That is a nice store. They had some really nice Fenders there. It was right next to one of the $10,000 SRV strat copies. Cool stuff.

I don't own this guitar anymore, but it's a CS Strat, quilted maple cap over ash body, rosewood fretboard with abalone dot inlays, Noiseless pickups (with a Hot Noiseless in the bridge position), GraphTech Stringsaver saddles, Schaller locking tuners and strap-locks, a black volume knob and black tone knobs from a real '67 blackface Super Reverb. The color is called translucent teal.

I never should have sold it - great tone!

Another Fender I never should have sold - 1958 Fender Stratocaster, refinished in black. I sold it to my brother, who changed the pickguard to pearloid, put in the active EMG David Gilmour set of pickups, changed the tuning machines to Sperzel locking tuners, changed the string tree to a GraphTech graphite one, the saddles to GraphTech Stringsavers, and had it refretted. ARGH!!!!!

Not mine, but I used to have one almost exactly like it - '66 Fender Coronado, a short-lived Fender model designed to compete with the Gibson 335. Another great guitar I never should have sold. I'm really a bassist now, but man... I had some cool guitars :) I still have my '98 American Deluxe Strat, '98 custom-shop Taylor acoustic, and 1970 Martin N-10 classical though.
