Please people, if you have a problem with these types of basses (like Bill Nash and others have made for years) please skip this thread.

when asking for advice on how much a design must differ to avoid the men in suits knocking at your door, one must be prepared to receive honest answers that may or may not be comforting to hear ;)

FWIW - it's also bad business practice to bring other businesses (by name, nonetheless) into a public discussion like this. what 'technically legal by the finest of margins' dealings that other businesses do should not be the sole justification used as the measurement for the practices of your own business.

get some savvy legal advice on the topic so you're prepared for when the big guys come knocking at your door ... and have an answer ready for them as to why your business practices are upstanding and within established legalities, and why they need to go hassle somebody else

all the best,

R

Ok, made some tweaks. Moved it to back of headstock to avoid Fender trouble. Hopefully.

Put the website URL on there also. Not sure if that looks ok.

That works for me.

Hey gang, hopefully this isn't against the rules or something.

I've been asked by several people about a headstock logo on my basses. So I sat down last night with Photoshop and put this design together. Good? Bad?

(REVISED: Put logo on back of headstock)

I have to be honest with you, it needs to be more logo-like. I understand you want your name on such beautiful instrument, but IMHO I think it should be smaller and more artistic maybe not even legible. My artistic/marketing side says average logo on above average bass. Maybe like a fancy A with "tkinson" inside the A...

people having wanted to see more LOGO like applications

now some of these are more "lumber company" then bass builder (think Weyerhauser) but you get the drift

if you have to cut a sliver of 4 mm off the headstock to
fight Fender's legal hounds than why not do it?
It would make your product more marketable to see your name up front

I seem to remember you having this same type of disposition in your "I Don't Like SX (Essex) - Am I Alone?" thread.

Not to sound like a jerk, but if you ask for opinions, don't expect every one to be blowing sunshine up your transom scupper.

Just sayin'. ;)

Still like the logo. Dislike the URL.

Since you asked, it looks like a bad ink stamp. I don't think you need to put you web address under the logo. If you have a decent website, why do you need the website?

I think some folks have given good advice on here if you really want to see this to the next level. Seems like a tough thing to get going and keep going.

Lastly, not meaing to bust your huevos, but haven't you sold a lot of your basses in the For Sale forum? I've seen some of the threads and wondered where this was going. Good for you if you're venturing into doing this building gig. Seriously, I hope it works out for you. I love the inspiration that drives your builds and seems to be some nice work. I wish you all the best and will continue to watch what is next. Hopefully, a 34" scall PJ is in the future.:)

I did sell a couple there initially, but no longer. That would be against TB policies, I have learned.
