Sorry about the late response, you will most likely NOT be happy if you even lightly sand or scuff your metallic finish, it will change. Your best bet is to keep it debris free maybe give it a wipe-down if the metallic isn't "snagging" your towel, does it?

I suspect you'll be alright vs. the alternative which is to scuff your finish which on a metallic finish a not good practice unless you like how it looks as it's being 'knocked down'. Doesn't the metallic have "bite" due to the nature of flake?

Test for the Disco Bass finish (under grey-neutral exterior light) - 1&2: Rustic Orange base-coat dusted with Orange Glitter-Blast 3&4: Golden Glow Glitter-Blast dusted over both. The addition of GG GB is subtle but I like it - adds a bit more 'sparkle'. (shot on the G side down the middle - more distinct on pic #4 - looks pretty close to the Dano. 5 (under bright sunlight)

Other examples of the Krylon Glitter Blast 'dusted' over a base-coat colour. (as in, not thickly coated/built up) All used Golden Glow Glitter-Blast. 1: over Hand Rubbed Bronze Metallic 2: over ivory white 3: over red oxide 4: over 'tan' 5: over camel brown 6: over high-chroma red (neck not dusted) Once done - all were sprayed w/satin clear nitro. (as in #6)

Just finished this one. Late 80s MIK Squier Bullet bass in matte Periwinkle Blue. Was originally black.

  6. I'm usually a fan of shiny/glossy finishes but that looks great. Great update from black.

Thanks! I've been doing a lot of matte finishes lately. I really dig the look, and they're a lot easier to finish compared to gloss. I just knock the satin clear flat with 0000 steel wool, and done.

Got this one reassembled today. Squier P in Krylon Fusion Matte Sea Green with satin Krylon clear. Not much work in the final stages with this method. Spray a few coats of clear, wait a couple days, then buff out with 0000 steel wool.
