Recommend a Sweetwater Sales Engineer?

Is that really a thing? I live in New York which started taxing online purchases a few years ago. Do retailers in other states have a choice to not charge sales tax?
I used to order everything from Sweetwater until a couple years ago when California started requiring them to charge sales tax. I only found this out when I asked “my guy,” Aaron Cieslowski, why there was suddenly sales tax on my order. Now with Sweetwater’s “no sales tax advantage” gone, I buy gear from a variety of places. I never used to buy from Musicians Friend/Guitar Center because they are based in California and it was so much cheaper to buy from Indiana! But for most drum gear, I bought from Cascio/Interstate Music in Wisconsin (They had the best selection and prices for drum gear). Of course, they now have to charge CA sales tax too.

Aaron from Sweetwater is a nice guy; I have mainly bought accessories, sound/PA gear, and drum gear from Sweetwater. I order online, then he calls to follow up and be sure the order is correct and to tell me when it is shipping out. Usually just leaves me a voicemail; haven’t talked to him very much. I have no idea how knowledgeable he is with bass, but he has always been very helpful with sound gear. There have been times that he has done research to help me out and then calls me back with the answers. Very professional. My guy!

Chris is my guy, I bought a bottle of lemon oil from sweetwater 10 years ago and still like clockwork he gives me ring every six months just to check in. Usually I hang on him, he has a knack for calling at the worst of times. To be honest I'm not sure Chris is really the engineer he claims to be. I'm also a little concerned that Chris doesn't seem to have much of a life outside of sweetwater, do they let those boys outside on the weekend? Last I'm entirely convinced after reading this thread that there are no women in the state of Indiana and that too is concerning. I think the next time Chris calls I'll ask him about my car's extended warranty and see where that gets me. :)

A friend had some issues recording individual audio tracks from midi and he had purchased most of the gear from Sweetwater. They set up a webex and walked him through the issues he was having. I was pretty impressed with that.

I find their people useful when sorting similar options for use. I don't need much if any hand-holding when it comes to bass gear (like most of us, I know what I'm looking for, what I want and have done my research and legwork)...but when I wanted to upgrade my IEMs, I discussed the pros and cons of different commensurately priced and optioned sets. The rep I work with does use IEMs (though he's a guitarist), and we could have a pretty solid discussion about what I was hearing, what I wanted to hear, and what would be the best move. He didn't try to upsell me in the least and also had input from others in their office.

I also at one point toyed with using a couple audience mics for our IEMs and wasn't having much luck with my setup. He not only knew enough about mics to know why the ones I was using weren't the right thing for the setting, but found a pair of condensers that WOULD be the right thing (again they were also on the cheaper side of things), and discounted them.
