What pickup (to be sure)? This is my rig - with the Red Eye preamp - for most small to medium jazz gigs. Super easy and (to me) sounds great.
Bass is an Eastman Busetto VB305.

Just out of curiosity: Have you compared the EAP into the Redeye vs. the EAP into the Sarno Black Box?BTW just tried the EAP with the Redeye and it sounds frickin great .
Lifeline. Sounds fine straight into the AI head but when I add the Red Eye into the chain…well you know, that’s what got this thread rolling I suppose. What pickup (to be sure)?
So you did this with two separate output jacks and two cords? So here is the thing: I just did a couple weeks of gigs convincing myself that the Redeye is totally killin and I dont need bridged I dont need two pickups, it is such a clear signal, such a useful crisp sound up and down the fingerboard, that just the simple little box into whatever front end will work (a tube pre is nice but I imagine that if someone hadn't stolen my Focus head a few years back it would sound great thru that too)...SO this morning I hooked up the Twin with one each of the Yamahikos going into either channel and set the blend to 70/30 like I like, not expecting better but just kinda too much of the same, but HOTDAMN that sounds excellent. It does the 3D thing, the two signals blend so well (the Redeye does NOT have a polarity switch on it and I DO have one Y pickup with the opposite polarity) that I am convinced. The twin is different in that you cannot power it externally and it DOES have gain for each of the channels. Easy to get the right blend and still has the most excellent boost and the treble knob could be a slightly more bass friendly point but it also works great to add or subtract that crispness (it does make a significant aural change).
I am going to try the EAP blended in but leave the Stat B trial to someone else (my new bridge does not have the Stat Wedge.)
Personally, owning the single already and having it on a pedal board where it can be powered and locked in, I may stick with that. But I dont know this twin really has a huge amount going for it. Because the Imp matching thing is so excellent you really don't need eq (flat is great) so what this small box has to offer kind of kicks all the bigger boxes asses: it has blending (no mic tho) boost, gain, stellar Imp matching, DI, effects loop (amp) and all the other bull is left for another box. I'm lovin it.
Are you still using the twin to blend the two sites of the Yamahiko pick-up?I am playing gigs where I am getting the best sound I have ever had (using the Redeye) and where I am fiddling with knobs the least. It just sounds damn good. Time to start selling stuff.
I like the Lifeline a lot, but it sure could use some more upper frequencies IME and IMO. Does the Red-Eye do anything to help with that? More definition, presence, or whatever you want to call it? Maybe I should sell everything and go Yamahiko into a Fire-Eye.... but I just got my Headway and I really likeLifeline. Sounds fine straight into the AI head but when I add the Red Eye into the chain…well you know, that’s what got this thread rolling I suppose.![]()
