Rejected Band Names

During my ill spent youth, Punk bands all had provocative names, (Sex Pistols, Stranglers, Slits, Vibrators etc) and we decided we'd be...

Hitler's Lesbians.

Band was all for it, but the first place who booked us on a multi band bill (we only had 5 songs ready) refused to put it on the poster. We played as "The Noise Idiots."

Rejected:
Fuzzy Motorcycles
Dead Goose Island
Disturbing Bumperstickers

Teflon Skillet Lickers
Groove Holler

Lead Free Cats
Still Willin

Steel Belt Ramblers
Instant Twang
Kentucky Flat Tops
Kentucky Throwbacks
Standing on the Shoulder

Sticky Valves
Donkey Wins the Derby
Not Been Cheated
Kicked by the Wind
Three Years to Pay
Smell the Whisky
From Here to Sunday

No Friends at the Courthouse

We became (with permission) "Biscuits in the Wind."
I can see you've really worked at this.

snobby high school girl

Sexy Deadpan Optimus Prime.
threadjump! I would absolutely want either of these for band names, and I know in advance that they would be rejected immediately.

There are some fantastic band names in here. Not joking. especially the "x and the y's" names. Hey there's another good one!

Yeah. I especially liked "No Friends at the Courthouse," "Disturbing Bumperstickers," and "Teflon Skillet Lickers."

However, Calef Brown, an amazing poet, gave me permission to use "Biscuits in the Wind," which I still adore. It comes from one of his poems in Flamingos on the Roof, a terrific book of his poems and illustrations.

We also rejected these:
Boones Creek Brethren
Nik-0-teens
Unshaken Sinners
Pleasant on the Porch
Monkey Island Revival
Walk to the Wind
Worked Up and Down
Engine 143
Roundhowze
No Deeper Well
Mah SPEWN!!!
Faux Faux
Brought my Pistol
The STRANGS
One more busted headlight
Lee-of, ann Lay-ette Lee-of (Live, and Let Live in N. KY dialect)
Shakey Spokes
trout fisherman’s haircut
Clays Ferry
Fontaine Road
Ashland
Mr. H and his Chaw-Chillin’ Pickers

I think we revised "Lee-of, ann layette Lee-of" to "Leehuff Anne Layette Leehuff," but it was still rejected.

Moonshine not sunshine (is, and, or, beats, from, over, by, etc.)
Sunday Drivers
Dead Beanie Babies
Foreign Girlfriends
Hardworking Sleeping Pills
Manly Muffins
Lazy Toasters
A distant pulpit

You have got to love "Foreign Girlfriends," and "Hardworking Sleeping Pills," which my nephew Andy suggested.

A friend I used to (and still do) play music with was a fellow industrial electrician. One day we were changing a machine component called a proportional valve, and he was reading the names of the small adjustments on the circuit board. And he came up with the band name "Max Dither and the Spanpots." It was good for a laugh.

Whenever I've been in a band needing a name I've always suggested "Lash and the Replaceables".

It has yet to be used.

My favorite band name was when in college I was part of a 3rd wave ska band called Ludicrous Speed. We put out an EP called "They've Gone Into Plaid" and did an extended tour of California. Years later a coworker realized he went to see us when we were part of a festival in San Diego. Funny. I'm sure there have been a number of people who've used that name since.
