Restoration: Roadstar (II) to hell

*sigh*

P4270755.jpg

No need to adjust the aspect ratio of your monitor - these logos have clearly been at the viagra.
Thanks eBay.

I've got to admit this was actually my second attempt to acquire a half-decent logo (double-fail) so now I must grudgingly succumb to: "if you want it done properly, do it yourself."

... *sigh*.

I know I've got some laserjet waterslide paper in my luggage somewhere, so how does this look?

I can't match the lower font exactly, but I reckon that's pretty close?? Thoughts??

On the positive side: I get the words 'Roadstar II Series' back :)

Oh, P.S. if someone could tell me the width of the logo (mm) on the original it would be much appreciated! Cheers chaps.

I found this on google: [Invalid or Expired Link Removed]

Maybe you could create a vector from the small image in the left corner then scale and print until it looks OK. (Just use normal paper until you get the size right)

It's a long time since I used inkscape so I can't remember if there is a tool to convert from JPG to vector.

If you want I could try and whip up something from that picture in Photoshop when I get home from work.

edit: Eh... nevermind. That logo is on a guitar, not a bass... :o

Here is a pic of the bass headstock: [Invalid or Expired Link Removed]

If you measure the nut width and the width between the two pointy bits on the top of the headstock, and the length from the top of the headstock to the nut it should be easy to make it to scale.

My Roadstar is an RB650 (well, it's still mine for now ;)), so I can't help with measurements, but your logo scares me. You are going to print this in GOLD, yes?

Dave, you continue to kick this project in the booty, and I couldn't suppress a grin when you suggested you had an idea re:brass saddles. Can't wait! Well, actually I can, it's just that I would prefer not to.

Promise I'll post some more interesting progress during the week, in the meantime:
Wanted to make the bridge match the truss cover a little better so found some brass rod that was knocking about - threaded it:

... and made some brass grub-screws!
(they're not perfect, it was more a proof-of-concept job)

Add a couple of brass screws to hold it down and it's starting to look like a set of matching hardware.

Anyho- must dash, it's me and the missus' anniversary ... which I obviously didn't forget about.
Obviously.

It's hard to tell from the various low resolution pictures I've seen on the google, but I'm 99.999% positive that the font used for "ROADSTAR II SERIES" is Helvetica (aside from the roman numeral II). It looks like you used Arial, which is close, but wasn't widely available when your bass was made). If you want it in Helvetica, I can set that line for you and send you an .eps, .ai, or .svg file.

Hey - I saw you were looking to do a gold logo, and it reminded me of this tutorial. It seems to me that it should work, the only concerning part being the photo mount adhesive on the paint job. I'm no finish expert, but the adhesive on the paint seems like a no-no, in the tutorial he is doing the logo on bare wood. Even if you print out the logo with a black outline, it will be gold in the center. May be worth the couple extra bucks - again I haven't tried it myself, just thought I would throw it out there.

There's the link!

The original strap buttons on these are proprietary and wing-shaped. They would be hard to find to make this restoration authentic, but regular strap buttons or Strap-locks would be a vast improvement on that nail job! Sheesh! DaveRhys, was the original strap button present on the body wing? I didn't see it in the photos.

.

that just reminded me that I have a set of those buttons in a box somewhere...
I never really liked them

If it was a block font from the 70s/80s there is a 99.9999% chance that it was Helvetica. It didn't really go out of style until the early 90s and has had a massive resurgence in the last 12-15 years. I believe that the II is actually Helvetica, but the two "I's" are stuck together.

C'mon man, I'm going through withdrawal here.. I have the DT's bad, and a cold sweat...

:help:

Update for the love of God!

:D

Really sorry for the delay in proceedings, I've been unpacking this little lot...

... and to my dismay, one of my toolboxes is missing :hmm:

... the one with all my (expensive) router bits and a couple of (expensive) planes in.
I'm just clarifying with customs whether there was a problem or if it's grown legs.

Either way, it may have to be an insurance claim, but more to the point: it's bloody annoying.

Will cathartically refret the neck this weekend though and post pretty pictures.
