Reverend Mike Watt sig...

I dig it. Wish it had the pups that were in Watt's stolen bass (or atleast similar) but judging from recent gigs Mike seems to have moved away from those
I see that PlanetBass is selling the Legacy/LanePoor pickup. I have one of the early ones. Very similar to the originals. Guy uses same equip etc to make them. I also have the Bartolini mini H/B just havent installed it...yet.

This is about what best suites Mike watt, not anyone else. Mike watt played a p bass for years. He always made MAJOR mods to his basses to best suite his tone and performing. I dig the bass and if it fit my rules of thumb in what I look for in a bass I'd buy it. Don't get me wrong, I love seeing him perform with those old school Gibson short scales, but when you get your signature instrument, that all goes out the window. He's almost 60 and he stated how his hands don't work like they once did, and from personal experience with a short scale, I'm a much faster precise bassist.

Interesting he's gone back to passive pickups, he's used active for a long time now. Would like to get my hands on one of these to try but suspect it'll be a bit more than I'm wanting to pay for another passive short scale; if it was around £300-400 that'd be perfect.

Just saw this on the ol' FB this morning from Mike Watt:

the september 2016 prototype "wattplower" bass. the good folks at reverend guitars plan to LAUNCH this baby at the 2017 namm convention. there's still a couple of more changes to be made but it's really getting there and I love working it. I'm using an earlier orange prototype on this il sogno del marinaio "canto secondo tour 2016" that starts tomorrow, in fact! it'll be available in emerald green and powder yellow. yeah, it's a short scale cuz that's what I like working gigs w/and they took the neck dimensions from the dan bass which is my preference. joe naylor designed a shaging happening sounding pickup to go in this baby, love it - both him and ken haas did a righteous job, much respect to them!

I'm a little puzzled. I' under the impression that the orange one Watt plays with is a prototype, and he's playing it at his shows/on the road, and making the changes it needs till he is satisfied with the mods he installed, and then they'll make the final permanent version?? Or what is the situation?

Reverend has built him several prototypes. I think the orange one was something like the 3rd or 4th he's had up to this point.

I'm not a fan of the heel-positioned upper strap peg, but I'm guessing Reverend will use lightweight tuners and neck dive won't be an issue. I like the big jack reinforcement, particularly because someone busted the top of my EB-0 at the jack before I acquired it. GAS is building, loving that green...

My understanding is the green one is the latest version with whatever changes he requested after the orange one. He has been on tour overseas if im not mistaken and might not have the green one "in hand". He stated on FB that a long scale version will be discussed. Im digging them. Also says emerald green and powder yellow are 2 color options.
