Rickenbacker finish issue (Resolved by RIC)

Best post in the whole thread, sheds an entirely new light on the situation. I will say that out of the basses I own that will never leave the collection. I can't wait to get it back and throw some original mojo on it.
Natural wear developed over the course of 20 years is leagues more flattering than a finish bubble!

Glad it's working out for you OP... I wonder if they will repair the finish or simply send you a new bass?

I asked the guy what they intended to do with it once it got there. He was a little vague, but it amounted to "at the very least we will refinish the face of the guitar".
So I really have no idea what they plan on doing with it. I would imagine that just doing a refinish would be a pain in the ass and pretty expensive, so I don't really know what would be more cost/time efficient for them.
If they send me a new bass I would imagine it would be a new warranty, as it states in RIC literature that all finishes are warrantied from the year of manufacture date. But ultimately that would be up to RIC to word that however they wanted in my case.
Sounds like you are already thinking about this. I would be certain and ensure that I got it all in writing, just to cover my behind.

If mine every develops a bubble, and I'd find out they'd replace the bass instead of refinish, I'd have a hard time doing it, because I wouldn't want to take a chance on the replacement not playing as great as my current one does. I thought I read in the past that some folks have had warranty work done and they basically swap all the hardware onto a new body and ship it back out.
I'm in pretty close contact with the CS rep over at RIC. Once tracking information is updated to show delivered I'm going to send him an email and ask him what they plan to do before they do anything. I'd like to keep my current Ric, it plays fantastic and I've already bonded with it. I'll update the thread again once I find out what they plan to do with it.

My Ric has been received by their CS department and it is currently under inspection. I've confirmed that they got it via tracking, signed delivery and I had the CS rep email me. Waiting to hear what they plan to do with it. I will update again when I've found out.

Beautiful. If I had to guess from the neck pickup being 1/2" from the fretboard, I'd say '74 or early '75? Am I close?

I realize this is an aside, but seeing the poster's photos of his JetGlo, I noticed the pickguard...It looks as if Ric has finally stopped adding that weird "baby bump" by the switch/knob area of the pickguard. Anybody how how recently Ric made the switch?

They call that the dreaded "double hump" pickguard, discontinued within the last year or two, good riddance, never looked right.
